Shelbourne signs midfielder Aodh Dervin from Longford Town 

Shelbourne FC has today announced the signing of midfielder Aodh Dervin from Longford Town ahead of the 2022 season. 

The 22-year-old hails from the midlands and has played at Bishopsgate since 2015. ​​Aodh played with Longford Town’s U17 squad for the 2015 and 2016 seasons before becoming a mainstay since joining their senior team helping them to promotion in the 2020 campaign. 

At just 21, Aodh had won the Player of the Season for the midlanders in their promotion season before playing a full campaign in the Premier Division last season. 

Shelbourne FC Men’s First Team Head Coach Damien Duff said: “We are delighted to welcome Aodh to Tolka Park. He has played a lot of games for one so young, so he is a brilliant addition to our midfield options. He is tenacious, technical and has an infectious appetite for the game. He will fit perfectly into the dressing room”

Speaking on his announcement, Aodh Dervin told shelbournefc.ie: “Look when Damien Duff rings you, it’s a great feeling. It had been In the works for a while and it was the right time on all sides. I’m hungry to be involved in what is going to be a ruthless environment. I’m obsessed with hard work and will be fully focused on it now. It’s a great Christmas present to get it over the line. Shelbourne FC is delighted to present the 1895 Pale Ale, the new Official Beer of Shelbourne FC in collaboration with Dublin brewery Hope Beer. 

With the brewery located in Dublin’s Northside near Kilbarrack and Raheny, Hope Beer is one of the capital’s newest institutions. 

The new 1895 Pale Ale sees one of Dublin’s oldest clubs meet one of its newest breweries to create an easy-drinking, malty pale ale with a subtly hop-kick. 

Hope Beer started out in 2015 when the brewery was founded by four friends with a passion for beer and business. What began as a series of late-night kitchen table discussions is now a state-of-the-art brewery, producing an extensive range of award-winning premium craft beers.

Hope produces a core range of five distinct beer styles which are available all year round as well as two seasonals and a wide range of limited-edition beers.

All Hope beers are brewed, bottled, canned and kegged at Howth Junction on Dublin’s Northside and are crafted to be the perfect accompaniment to food. 

The 1895 Pale Ale will be available prior to Christmas from Tolka Park from 6pm to 8pm on Wednesday, 22 December and from 5pm to 8pm on Thursday, 23 December. 

It will also then be available from local off-licences and from the Tolka Bar during the 2022 Season where Shels will feature in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division and FAI Women’s National League.

Shelbourne FC will open the defence of our FAI Women’s National League campaign at home to Bohemian FC at Tolka Park on Saturday, March 3, 2022. 

The Reds will face a first clash with Sligo Rovers FC in the WNL on April 2 at home while a first game against Peamount United will be at home on Saturday, May 7. 

Shels will close their campaign against Wexford Youths on October 29, 2022.

Shelbourne FC will face St Patrick’s Athletic at Tolka Park in a Dublin Derby for our first game back in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division.

The Reds’ first away trip of the 2022 season will be away to Drogheda United on February 25 followed by a trip to UCD three days later. 

Other fixtures include Dublin Derbies with Bohemian FC on March 14 at Dalymount Park and Shamrock Rovers at home on April 8. 

The Reds conclude their campaign with a trip to Inchicore on November 4.

 Shelbourne FC has today announced the signing of Welsh forward Daniel Hawkins after his spell with Finn Harps last season. 

Born in Cardiff, Hawkins spent time with Swansea City and Hull City before signing his first professional contract for Salford City. 

The 20-year-old comes to Tolka Park having played in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division with Finn Harps last season. 

Hawkins particularly impressed towards the end of last season and becomes Head Coach Damien Duff’s latest signing ahead of the 2022 season. 

Shelbourne FC Men’s First Team Head Coach Damien Duff said: “Dan has had a great footballing education with clubs in the UK. He then went and impressed in the second half of the season last year in the League Of Ireland. He is highly technical and will bring another dimension to our attacking play.”

Speaking on his announcement, Daniel Hawkins told shelbournefc.ie: “I can’t wait to get going. I’m buzzing to get over and start what is a brilliant opportunity for myself. Learning about the project from Damien and management has been really exciting and we want to push up as high as possible in the league. The sky’s the limit for us as a group.”

Shelbourne FC has today announced lifelong supporter Darren Cleary as it’s new Supporter Liaison Officer (SLO) at the Club. 

Darren is a lifelong Shelbourne fan and an award-winning journalist and broadcaster, the Dubliner would be well known to Reds supporters for his media work with the club. Cleary hosts The 1895 Podcast and Post Match show, as well as serving as club commentator for LOITV broadcasts alongside Steven Doody. 

As part of his role, Darren will be responsible for acting as a key conduit between the Club and its supporters and will focus on the following key tasks during his tenure:

  • To serve as a bridge between the club and supporters, while providing a two-way flow of information on key issues. The SLO will proactively engage with the fanbase on matters of strategic importance to both Shelbourne Football club and its supporters.

  • The SLO will oversee and examine new structural ways of bringing further fan representation within the Club
  • Gather feedback and suggestions regarding strategy around improvement of the match day experience at Tolka Park

  • Play an active role in helping to advocate fan opinions and considerations in the development of club policy and processes.

Cleary currently works in media, leading podcast strategy and development across the Bauer Media Ireland group as managing editor, digital audio. 

Darren has extensive experience in sports, events, communications and content.  Prior to joining Bauer Media. He served as Global Director of Sport at Web Summit, the largest business, technology, and sports conference in the world. Cleary led the sports programming at events in Europe, Asia, and America. The Dublin 1 native also chaired the selection committee for the prestigious Web Summit Innovation In Sport Award, the international mark of excellence in the sports business community.

An award-winning journalist and broadcaster, prior to joining Web Summit, Cleary has also worked with Off The Ball, Ireland’s leading independent sports broadcaster. During his time there he was named Sports Broadcaster of the Year at the IMRO National Irish Radio Awards in 2018. Prior to joining Off The Ball, Cleary worked as a broadcast journalist with eir Sport, RTÉ, 98FM, Today FM, Newstalk, and FM104.

Shelbourne Football Club has today announced Academy player Jad Hakiki has signed his first professional contract with the Club after a hugely successful season with the Shelbourne U17M League of Ireland team last year. 

The attacking midfielder has impressed with the U17M team winning the Shield in 2021 and has also made appearances for Republic of Ireland U18M recently, scoring with two further assists in a 7-1 win over Malta. 

At just 17, Jad has played with our U17M and U19M teams at League of Ireland level and has worked with Men’s First Team Head Coach Damien Duff and First Team Captain Luke Byrne within the Shelbourne FC Academy. 

Jad also won U17M League of Ireland Player of the Year in 2021 for Shelbourne. 

Prior to joining the Shelbourne FC Academy in 2020, Jad had played for Belvedere FC and Bray Wanderers.

Damien Duff, Shelbourne FC Men’s First Team Head Coach said: “The future of Shelbourne Football Club has to be built on a strong academy. Jad was without doubt the best player in the U17M LOI last year. He is top class on and off the pitch and thoroughly deserves his first professional contract.”

Shelbourne signs defender Conor Kane from Drogheda United 

Shelbourne FC has today announced the signing of Conor Kane from Drogheda United ahead of the 2022 season. 

The 23-year-old left-back first joined Drogheda from St. Patrick’s Athletic ahead of the 2017 season.

Kane went on to make over 100 appearances for the Boynesiders in five seasons including 31 games in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division last year. 

The Dubliner was also named in the 2020 PFA Ireland First Division Team of the Year and has represented the Republic of Ireland at U18 and U19 level. 

Speaking on his announcement, Conor told shelbournefc.ie: “I’m delighted to get it over the line. The way Damien was speaking to me about the Club and where we want to go is the same as where I want to. I want to go up another level by working with the management team and the platform we have at Tolka Park so hopefully we can bring success back to the Club.”

He loves defending and attacks with speed and quality. He is desperate to be challenged and join a full time environment. He will no doubt bring another dimension to the team.
