Shelbourne FC is pleased to announce the return of Will Jarvis to Tolka Park on loan from Hull City until the end of the 2024 season, subject to international clearance.

Jarvis’ return to Shels will be warmly welcomed by staff, players and supporters, the Englishman made an immediate impact after arriving in Dublin midway through the 2023 season.

The attacker made 12 appearances for Damien Duff’s side scoring 3 vitally important goals as the Reds secured a top four finish and qualified for Europe after St Pats Cup final win.

The 21-year-old scored his first Shels goal against Cork City in September 2023 in a 2-1 win at Tolka Park, he netted the winner against Dundalk the following month, before helping the Reds come from 2-0 down on the final day to win 4-2 in Drogheda, with Jarvis scoring the leveller.

The capture of the highly rated Jarvis is a significant boost for the Reds ahead of the new season.  The York native came through the Hull City academy, having joined the club at U12 level. Jarvis is seen as a top prospect at his parent club. In August 2023, he signed a new two-year deal with Hull City.

Jarvis has played at senior level for the Championship club, having made his debut for the Tigers in August 2021, coming off the bench against Wigan Athletic in the first round of the Carabao Cup and scoring his penalty in the shootout. He made his league debut a week later against Derby County in the Championship.

In January 2022, Jarvis joined National League North side York City on a one-month loan deal, making two appearances. A few months later, he joined Scarborough Athletic, netting on his debut in a 2-1 victory over Atherton Collieries.

During his time with the club, Jarvis scored four goals in 10 appearances, helping Scarborough win promotion to the National League North.

In August 2022, Jarvis rejoined Scarborough on an initial one-month youth loan, in his second spell, he featured five times, scoring once.

Jarvis becomes the 22nd member of Damien Duff’s squad for next season. Joining the previously announced Liam Burt, John Martin, John O’Sullivan, Dean Williams, Lorcan Healy, Conor Kearns, Gavin Molloy, Mark Coyle, JJ Lunney, Jad Hakiki, Evan Caffrey, Brian McManus, Matty Smith, Paddy Barrett, Tyreke Wilson, Kameron Ledwidge, Sean Boyd, Shane Griffin, Shane Farrell, Keith Ward and Sean Gannon.

Damien Duff, Shelbourne FC Head Coach said: “It’s amazing news that Will is coming back, even better that he wants to come. His impact on the team was there for everyone to see, he is a special player. We look forward to working with Will again and helping him grow on and off the pitch. Thank you to Hull also for making it happen. The partnership might have ended but the relationship remains strong.”

Will Jarvis said: “I had a great experience at Shels last season so I was really delighted to get the chance to come back. The club helped me grow and develop last season and I am really excited to kick on again this season. It’s a great group of players and the staff have been brilliant with me. We achieved our goal of a top four finish and Europe last season and I’m really excited to see what this season holds. It’s a very ambitious group and I’ve loved playing at Tolka, the fans create an amazing atmosphere, when I heard Shels wanted me back, it was a no brainer for me.”

Shelbourne FC are delighted to announce the appointment of Mark Coyle as the new club captain for the 2024 season.

The 26-year-old midfielder has been an integral part of the Reds since joining from Finn Harps during the close season of 2022.

The Donegal man has demonstrated natural leadership qualities and a strong presence in the middle of the park, quickly establishing himself as a fan favourite.

Despite facing injury challenges during the early stages of his Shels career, Coyle has consistently proven his mettle, making a significant impact in 2023 as the Reds secured a 4th place finish in the League of Ireland, their highest since 2006.

The Donegal man made 27 appearances last term, 24 of them as a starter. He scored one gaol last season, the winner in a crucial victory away to Sligo Rovers in August 2023.

Prior to joining Shelbourne, Coyle’s outstanding performances at Finn Harps earned him the Player of the Year award for the 2021 campaign.

Known for his technical ability on the ball and tenacious tackling, Coyle has become an important part of the culture created by Damien Duff at the club.

Coyle assumes the role following the retirement of Luke Byrne at the end of the 2023 season.

Damien Duff, Shelbourne FC Head Coach said: “I am very proud to announce Mark as our new captain. He was the outstanding candidate to lead us into battle this season. He commands respect from the dressing room, the terrace and the league. He represents everything this club is about. Being selfless, humble, hard working and full of quality.”

Mark Coyle, Shelbourne FC Captain said:“It’s a bit surreal to be honest, I’m hugely honoured and proud to be the captain of this great football club. My family is so proud. It could’ve been any one of our dressing room we’re lucky to have lots of leaders at Shels, I was captain on occasion last season but didn’t want to get excited about possibly being made captain when Luke Byrne stepped away, because I knew it could’ve been any one of a few lads. There is pressure with the armband but it’s a  privilege to be captain of this club, I really am so proud and honoured.”

The new club captain sat down with Ste Doody this morning to discuss the 2023 season, what it means to him personally to captain the Reds and excitement for the new season ahead.
