Shelbourne Football Club tonight announced the signing of former Irish International player Stephen Elliott until the end of the season, subject to International Clearance.

Stephen Elliott, from Dublin, played his early football with Belvedere FC and Stella Maris before signing for Manchester City [2004], He later moved to Sunderland, where he worked under Mick McCarthy.

The striker then followed McCarthy to Wolverhampton Wanderers before spells with Preston North End, Norwich City, Coventry City, Hearts and, most recently, Carlisle United.

He ruptured his Achilles tendon while playing for Carlisle United back inOctober 2014and underwent surgery.

The 32-year-old free agent trained with Shamrock Rovers in pre-season, but even though he was not included in Pat Fenlon’s plans for the league campaign, he has continued to train with Rovers.

He has represented the senior Ireland team on nine occasions, scoring once – the winning goal in a 1-0 World Cup qualifying victory against Cyprus in 2005.

James Brown becomes the fourth member of the U19 squad, managed by Martin Murray, to be promoted to the first team – joining up with Conor Keely, Robert Duggan and Dylan Grimes. James is in his second season with the club.

With James’s promotion, this has led to Sean Trimble being promoted from Stephen Finn’s U17s to the 19s and like James, Sean is in his second session with the club.

This shows the player pathway in the club, with hard work in the academy leading to this progression.

Keep up the hard work all.
