Shelbourne boss Damien Duff has said he is looking for a performance “full of energy” ahead of Friday night’s clash with Finn Harps.

Duff says his side was “devoid of energy” the last time the teams met at Tolka Park and knows a much improved performance will be required for “one of the toughest places to go in the league”

“The likes of Shamrock Rovers and Derry often struggle there so listen we know what we’re facing on Friday.

“It’s a massive game but at the end of the day it’s the same amount of points on offer as any other game,” he added.

Shelbourne will be without the suspended Aaron O’Driscoll, Shane Griffin and Sean Boyd while Coach Alan Quinn is also suspended.

Duff told shelbournefc.ie that his side is “fully prepared” for a game they know will be fiercely contested.

“It’s probably one of the better times of year to go there with the weather but it’s a game where the players are going to have to show their personality,” he said.

“For 89 minutes last week we showed great concentration and yes there were positives but we switched off for 60 seconds and you can see what happens,” he added.

Duff said his side will have to defend well with their concentration needed to defend crosses into the box and set pieces throughout the game.

Shels have no new injury concerns going into tomorrow’s game with David Toure and Sean McSweeney set to miss out with injury.

Shelbourne boss Damien Duff says his side “won’t get carried away with results” after the high of Friday’s win and disappointment of Monday’s loss ahead of another away trip this Friday.

Shels travel to Oriel Park to face Dundalk FC in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division on Friday night following two away wins in a row.

“We have to be realistic to where we are. We’re going to have ups and downs this season – are we going to win every game? Probably not but are we going to try win every game? Absolutely.

Duff told shelbournefc.ie that Dundalk are a team with plenty of quality but his team are looking forward to the game.

“They’ve always had that quality. They’ve got a new team, similar to us, and are rebuilding with some new players.

“We’ve got two tough big away games coming up but we’ve talked about why our away record is so good and we’re looking forward to the game,” he added.

The Reds Head Coach believes the reasoning for his side’s home and away record is “nothing tactical or technical but probably something emotional” but says the group is continuing to work as he realises if the home form improves, Shels will be in a “fantastic position.”

Duff believes the Shels fans after two sold-out home games have been “brilliant” and emphasised that “it’s so important that not just the players and staff but the fans too keep very close knit and together.”

“If we do that we’ll get to where we want to go faster,” he added.

Brian McManus’ injury is described as short-term in an injury boost for the Reds who will also be without Sean McSweeney, Daniel Hawkins and David Toure through injury.

Shelbourne boss Damien Duff said he is pleased to have almost a full squad to choose from ahead of a “massive three days” for the Reds.

Up first, Shels face Derry City at the Ryan McBride Brandywell in the SSE Airtricity League on Friday night.

“It’s the first time we’ve had nearly everyone available for selection which is amazing really,” Duff said.

“We’re looking forward to seeing the fans up in Derry and in Tolka on Monday. We know we will need them at times but the onus is on the players to get the crowd going too,” he added.

Shelbourne welcomes back Jack Moylan, JJ Lunney and Brian McManus who are all available for selection once more.

The Reds will be without JR Wilson through suspension but Duff says competition for places is fierce.

“There’s an opportunity there for someone else to come in and impress. It’s quite a specific position which Conor and JR have obviously done well in but you seen last week with Ledwidge coming in and going well there when he moved into how players can adapt,” Duff told shelbournefc.ie

Shels have trained on their Astro all week with Derry’s artificial pitch in mind and Duff says his players are well able for the different challenge.

“The one thing on which we pride ourselves is our fitness and that will enable to us to cover the extra miles on the bigger pitch so it will not be an issue,” he said.

Shels then welcome Bohemians to Tolka Park on Monday.

Shels boss Damien Duff said it is important his squad “don’t get carried away” after an impressive win over Sligo Rovers last week on the road.

The Reds welcome defending Champions Shamrock Rovers to Tolka Park tomorrow night on a high after Dan Carr’s penalty saw Shelbourne win 1-0 in Sligo last week.

However, Duff says that win has been “parked” and that all focus is on getting a first home win of the season tomorrow night against the Tallaght side.

“It’s important not to get too high or too low after wins and even after a disappointment like we had at home to Finn Harps,” Duff told shelbournefc.ie.

“The belief here is that we can beat anyone and whether we do or don’t is another thing but we go into each game believing we can win it,” he added.

“There’s been great energy around the camp and we’ll be up for the occasion and getting our first home league win on the board,” Duff said.

There may be some former links to the Rovers camp in the Shels team but Duff maintains there are “zero connections” to the visitors and that all focus is on the task at hand.

“We know what to expect and we’ve planned for that but the most important thing is to believe,” Duff said.

Defender Shane Griffin will return to the Shelbourne squad which Duff said is a “massive boost” and JJ Lunney, though in full training, will be another short wait off returning to the Shels squad.

Jack Moylan has also returned to training on the pitch as he nears a return.

JR Wilson will miss next week’s game against Derry City through suspension though is available for tomorrow’s Ringsend Derby.
