Shelbourne have added Arran Molloy and Dave Mulcahy to their squad for the coming season.

Arran Molloy was part of the First Team Squad in the 2017 season, while still playing with Wayne Groves’s Under 19s,

He was an unused substitute on ten occasions during the season and started in the drawn home game against Waterford FC at the end of June. He was substitued after 88 minutes by striker Aaron Ashe, who scored the goal that drew the game.

Defender Dave Mulcahy, who has league experience with Kilkenny City, St. Patrick’s Athletic, Cork City, Bray Wanderers and Bohemians, joins Shelbourne having spent last season with Waterford FC and Drogheda United.

He started his league career with hometown club Kilkenny City in 1999, before moveing to Waterford in 2003. Two years later he moved to St. Patrick’s Ath. For 18 months before returning to Waterford in mid-2007. He moved to Cork City for the 2008 season before leaving that August following a disagreement.

2009 saw him move on to Bray Wanderers and then to St. Patrick’s Ath for the 2010 & 2011 seasons. Bohemians was his next port-of-call in 2012, then managed by Aaron Callaghan. He was given the captain’s armband when Owen Heary took over at Dalymount in late 2013. He briefly joined Cork City ahead of the 2015 season, but not being able to commit to full-time football with the Lee-siders, returned to Dalymount, making 23 appearances with Bohs in 2015 and remaining at the club for 2016.

He joined Waterford FC at the start of the 2017 season but left the ‘Blues’ by mutual consent in August and signed for Drogheda United until the end of the season.

A huge thanks from the Board of Management and everyone at Shelbourne FC to Wayne for his work over the past season with our Under 19s.

During the season Wayne has worked with the other coaches and with First Team Manager, Owen Heary, to progress young underage players towards the goal of playing first team football in the League of Ireland.

Wayne has decided to move on from Shelbourne to pastures new and we wish him well in whatever he decides to do.

In deciding to part company with the club, Wayne had this to say “[It was a]Tough decision to step away from Shelbourne 19s after a great year but that’s football. I’d like to thank Owen Heary, Joe Casey, Frank Young and Eamon [White] for all their help.

To the players, I really hope I’ve helped develop you as player and as a person. Good luck in the future and thanks for everything”

Thanks again, Wayne, and we hope to see you around Tolka Park from time to time.

Conor Mitchell has been appointed Shelbourne FC’s Head of Youth Development.

He has an excellent track record and was Director of Football at Ballyoulster United AFC until 2017 before spending two years with the FAI/DDSL Emerging Talent Programme as U13 Head Coach.

Conor joined the club as manager of our National League U15 side in 2017. In his time with Shelbourne FC, he has shown himself to be a professional and committed individual with a desire to take the Academy in the right direction. He will start immediately on the task of setting out a vision for our Academy and working with the coaching staff and club personnel towards achieving that vision.

We received a large number of applications for this position and we are very grateful to everyone who took the time to apply.

Shelbourne FC Chairman, Joe Casey, said: “This is a key appointment for us as we look to develop our Academy. With the arrival of the underage National Leagues, it’s imperative that we have strong links between our Academy and the senior club. I believe Conor shares that goal and has earned the respect of the people he has worked with at the club since joining us. I have no doubt that he will be a positive force within the Academy and the club as a whole.”

Conor Mitchell said: “I am honoured and privileged to be taking on this position. Shelbourne FC is a fantastic club with a great history in the League of Ireland. The Academy will continue to develop elite players and provide a pathway for these players all the way to the first team. I’m excited about the future of the Academy and what lies ahead and I can’t wait to get started.”
