The FAI today released the fixtures for the 2017 SSE Airtricity League of Ireland. Shelbourne will start the First Division campaign at home to Longford Town on Friday, February 24th, at 7.45pm.

The FAI also announced that, from 2018, the Premier Division will be reduced to ten teams which means there will be no play-offs in the First Division this season. The winners will be promoted and 3 teams will be relegated from the Premier Division. This has a major impact on this club, and all First Division clubs who were hoping to win promotion this season, and it is more important than ever that we do everything possible to give Owen Heary and the team all the support we can.

Shelbourne’s new manager for the Under 19s SSE Airtricity Elite League is Wayne Groves.

Wayne comes to us from Longford Town, where he managed their U19 team to the semi-final of the Shield competition last season, where they were extremely unlucky to lose to Bohemians on penalties.

Wayne’s assistant will be Kilcock man Brendan Rooney, who was with Wayne at Longford Town in the same role.

Martin Murray has been appointed to the new position of National League Development Officer.

As part of his role, Martin will work with the First Team Manager to recruit players for the U17 and U19 National League squads. He will also co-ordinate training arrangements for the club’s various NL teams.

Martin was previously manager of Shelbourne’s U19 National League team.

The club will host a meeting for supporters on Monday, Dec 19th at 7.30pm, in the Regency Hotel to discuss various issues currently affecting the club and look ahead to the 2017 season.

We are aware that the meeting is being held at short notice and very close to Christmas but the Board of Management is eager to have this discussion at the earliest opportunity.

Owen Heary will be there to give his outlook on the prospects for the coming season, new signings and to answer questions from the floor.

We hope to see as many Shelbourne fans as possible there on the night, including members of the various supporters groups.

Shelbourne FC would like to announce the departure of Under 19 Manager, Martin Murray.

We wholeheartedly thank Martin for all the effort and work he has put into our Under 19 squads over the last 4 years.

Success is not always measured in trophies and although we have had many good results under Martin’s reign, the biggest success is undoubtedly the progress of players into the 1st team and this was always his primary aim. In fact he sacrificed results on occasions to facilitate the senior squad and as a consequence quite a number of his players made it through to the higher level.

We are extremely disappointed to have lost Martin as Under 19 Manager due to circumstances beyond our control, as people of his calibre and ability are hard to find.

We wish him every good luck and hope that he will consider remaining with the club in another capacity.

We would further like to thank all Martin’s back room staff over the years for all their hard work and effort.
