Shelbourne FC is delighted to announce the extension of manager Ian Morris’ contract until November 2022

Since joining Shelbourne, Morris has led the Reds to their first ever First Division title and ended our stay in the second flight gaining us promotion to the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division.

Shels won the First Division with a famous 3-1 win away to Drogheda United and eventually finished clear with a nine point margin.

This remarkable campaign was helped by a brilliant 11-game unbeaten run featuring ten victories.

Shels finished off the campaign with a remarkable 7-0 win over Limerick before lifting the First Division trophy for the first time.

Shelbourne FC is thus thrilled to extend Ian’s contract by another year in our 125th year as a club.

We are excited to enter the Premier Division again and look forward to a brilliant year with our fans and Ian.

Ian Morris told shelbournefc.ie that he is “delighted to extend my stay at Shels”

“To be given the chance to build on the success and foundations of last year is fantastic.

“It’s a really good place to be and a great environment for young players to be in as well as the morale and camaraderie of the First Team which is second to none,” he added.

“On top of that, the bond between the fans and team is there to see again throughout the pre-season and that’s what it’s all about,” he said.

Morris said it’s a “massive honour” to be a manager of Shels in its 125th year, an anniversary he said is “monumental.”

“We know how strong the Premier Division is this year and there will be surprises and twists along the way but we’re going out to win every game,” he said.

Shelbourne FC is delighted to welcome back club legend Dean Delany as Academy Goalkeeping Coach.

At the age of 39, Delany hung up his boots after helping Shels to achieve promotion back to the League of Ireland Premier Division.

During three different spells with the Tolka Park outfit, the goalkeeper secured his status as a club legend while representing them on just shy of 250 occasions.

Delany said he is “delighted” to return to the Reds after ending his playing career with the club in September.

“For me personally this is a super opportunity to start it all over again but from a coaching point of view, as excited as I am I realise there is a lot of hard work ahead,” he said.

The former Everton keeper said he feels “this club has given me so much through the years” and “fitting i should return to help out”

“This club has been through so many ups and downs in my time that if i can pass on any of the knowledge I’ve gained i think it will stand to our young aspiring goalkeepers.

“I really hope in years to come that we provide a platform for young Shelbourne goalkeepers to learn and mature in the right manner and hopefully to achieve their dreams,” he added.

“Whether it’s across the water or into our own great league we will provide this opportunity for them and if all else fails at the very least we will have tried to have a positive impact on there life. Let the hard work begin,” he said.

“I’m delighted to work with Ian again which was a draw straight away to me as well as having the chance to work at a Premier Division club in Dublin which doesn’t come around very often,” Sexton said.

“I have settled in really well so far. The lads have been brilliant, as well as the staff so everyone has been really welcoming,” he added.

Sexton said he is excited to work with Ian Morris and the exciting young players around the Shels squad in 2020.

“Young players in football clubs are very important and it’s something we don’t take lightly, if they’re good enough we will give them a go,” he said.

The Dubliner said growing up he had “always associated success with Shels.”
