LONGFORD TOWN 1 (Tristan Niack-Hofmann 8′)

SHELBOURNE 3 (Jamie Doyle 34′, Adam Evans 66′, Reece McEnteer 85′)

Match summary below thanks to sseairtricityleague.ie

It really was a game of two halves here at the City Calling Stadium.

Longford started brightly and deserved their lead through Noack-Hofmann’s header from a corner. Shelbourne battled back into the game well and Jamie Doyle’s low finish with his left foot was a deserved equaliser.

Longford never really came out for the second half and O’Reilly was sent off for two yellow cards.

Shelbourne then took control with a fine team goal that was finished by Adam Evans six minutes after gaining the man advantage. McEnteer’s goal late on made sure of the three points for the away side.

CABINTEELY 1 (Jack Watson 90+2′)

SHELBOURNE 0

CABO STRIKE LATE TO TAKE POINTS

(report courtesy of sseairtricityleague.ie)

Cabinteely snatched an unlikely three points against Shelbourne at Stradbrook on Friday night, as Jack Watson struck in second-half stoppage time.

The teams had won one game each, in the previous encounters between the sides this season.

The first-half was scrappy at times. Sean Byrne shot over for Shels after four minutes, but it was the best the visitors produced in an opening fifteen minutes which they dominated. Paul Fox hit an effort over in the twentieth minute, before Alan Byrne got a crucial touch on a ball over the top for Ryan Swan. He pushed it beyond Cabo’s new signing, and into the path of his keeper Dean Delany. Derek Prendergast had the best chance of the half just before the break. He got to Dylan Grimes’s corner first, but his header from six yards was straight at Kelly. Either side, and Shels would have taken a lead into half-time.

Shelbourne dominated the second-half, and they had a glorious chance to take the lead eight minutes into it. Adam Evans created the chance himself, as he cut in from the left, and tried to place the ball into the far right corner. His effort came back off the post, and David O’Leary’s follow up effort was blocked and cleared. Evans turned provider in the seventy-seventh minute as he crossed from the left for James Doyle, but the second-half substitute didn’t get over the ball, and he couldn’t keep his header down. Just when it looked like we were heading for a scoreless draw, Cabo got a winner. Marty Waters chased down a long ball, and crossed for Watson to finish from six yards. It was harsh on Shelbourne, but Pat Devlin will be delighted.

Cabinteely: Mick Kelly, Karl Byrne, Robert McGee, Conor Keeley, Kevin Knight, Jack Watson, Joe Doyle (Cory Galvin 74′), Daire Doyle, Ryan Swan, Kieran Waters, Paul Fox.

Subs not used : Jack Menton, Sean Fitzpatrick, Aaron Robinson, Dean Casey, Evan Galvin, Gareth McCaffrey

Shelbourne : Dean Delany, Adam O’Connor, Sean Byrne, Alan Byrne, Derek Prendergast, Niall Lanigan, David O’Leary, Mark Hughes, Dylan Grimes (Jamie Doyle 59′), Adam Evans, James English

Subs not used : Jamie Quinn, Aidan Colin’s, Reece McEnteer, James O’Brien, Dylan Kavanagh, Chris Lyons.

James Doyle, who left Shelbourne at the end of the 2016 season, having been voted Players’ Player of the Year, and signed for Bohemians, re-signed for Shelbourne on July 18th 2017, having left the Dalymount club by mutual consent.

Forward Jamie joined UCD from Leinster Senior League side Leixlip United before the start of the 2015 season. He did not take long to get into his stride, scoring for his new club away to Cobh Ramblers in the first game of the season.

At the end of the season, Doyle had played in 26 league games (24 starts, 2 as sub) and had scored six goals. He also played in all four of UCD’s Europa League games – against F91 Dudelange and Slovan Bratislava.

‘College’ finished the league in 3rd place (one ahead of Shelbourne) and secured a play-off position, but lost out to Finn Harps.

Prior to Leixlip United, Jamie had played with Cherry Orchard.

Jamie made 26 league, one FAI Cup, two EA Cup and one Leinster Senior Cup appearances during 2016, scoring 8 times in league games.

He left Shelbourne at the end of the 2016 season, joining Bohemians.

Jamie left Bohemians by mutual consent and Shels manager Owen Heary wasted no time in getting in touch with the player, agreeing terms with him early the following week

During his time with Bohemians, Jamie made 12 league appearances and one in the Leinster Senior Cup at home to Shelbourne (with the visitors winning 0-3)

Shelbourne FC would like to announce that Martin Murray has stepped away from the Club to pursue other avenues.

We wish to thank Martin for all his hard work over the years, both in our schoolboy section and in our Elite Under 19 set-up.

More recently, Martin worked as liaison between our Under 17s, 19s and First Team manager Owen Heary, but has now decided to move to pastures new.

We wish Martin the very best of luck in the future and hope that he won’t be a stranger to Tolka Park, as he will always be welcome.

SHELBOURNE 1 (James English 2′)

WEXFORD 2 (Thomas Croke 64′, Mikey Byrne 68′)

Bottom of the table Wexford upset the form table with a 2-1 snatch and grab victory at Tolka Park.

Report with thanks to sseairtricityleague.ie (with edit to correct name of Wexford first scorer)

Second-half goals from thomas Croke and Mikey Byrne gave Wexford a massive three points as they turned around a 1-0 deficit following James English’ opener.

Shels came flying out of the traps and grabbed a dream start after just two minutes, when hitman English reacted quickest to a terrible mix up at the back between Corey Chambers and AJ Lehane to tap home.

Shelbourne dominated the half, having effort after effort on Corey Chambers goal racking up an incredible 10 efforts, not including the goal. Owen Heary cut a frustrated figure on the sideline at his side’s inability to make their dominance count.

On the stoke of half-time, on-loan Shamrock Rovers striker Aaron Dobbs whipped in a dangerous cross just under Dean Delaney’s crossbar. The Shels keeper did well to push it away from goal, but the ball fell to the feet of Eoin Porter who had his scrambled effort cleared off the line thinking he scored. But it remained 1-0.

Wexford grew into the game, looking a lot more solid and grabbed an equaliser just after the hour mark. Shels failure to clear on the edge of their box following good pressure by Dobbs who, after winning the ball back, laid it off to Croke who drilled low and hard into the far post.

In an amazing turn around, Wexford snatched the lead just five minutes later, again from poor defending. Another goal mouth scramble that wasn’t cleared saw Mark Slater and Dobbs have efforts blocked before midfielder Mikey Byrne hammered home from inside the area to make it 2-1.

Shels huffed and puffed but were unable to get the illustrious equaliser their play deserved as their five game unbeaten streak came to an end.

Shelbourne : Dean Delany, James Brown, Sean Byrne, Aidan Collins (Aaron Ashe 83′), Derek Prendergast, Mark Hughes, Adam Evans, David O’Leary, Dylan Kavanagh (Dayle Rooney 66′), Dylan Grimes (Chris Lyons 46′), James English.

Subs not used : Jamie Quinn, Niall Lanigan, Aaron Molloy, James O’Brien.
