May 27, 2022: Shelbourne FC is delighted to announce a contract extension for player Shane Farrell for the 2023 season with a further option for the 2024 season.
The contract extension comes amid a string of impressive performances from Shane who is approaching his 100th appearance for Shels having been with the Club since 2018.
Shane has won two SSE Airtricity League First Division titles with Shelbourne in 2019 and 2021.
Shane also won Player’s Young Player of the Year for 2021 and has scored three times in 16 appearances thus far in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division this year.
Shelbourne Head Coach Damien Duff said: “I am delighted Shane has decided to sign back for next season with an option for 2024. He has excelled in numerous positions this year and is without doubt playing the best football of his career. Shane loves the club, the fans love him, he has top quality and a brilliant work ethic. When you put this all together, it is clear to see why we have signed him back so early.”
Speaking on the announcement, Shane Farrell said: “Obviously I am extremely happy to extend my stay here at this big club for another two years. I’ve loved every minute of it so far and you can see how happy I am on the pitch this year so it was really a no brainer when the Gaffer sat me down. I would also like to extend a thanks to the fans who have been nothing but exceptional since I joined the Reds and am looking forward to building on this for the rest of the season and beyond. Let’s get it started.”

Shelbourne Boss Damien Duff has said he is “building a team that the people can relate to” as the Reds continue to go from strength to strength in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division.
Shelbourne face a trip to deep south Dublin for the Ringsend Derby on Friday night against league leaders Shamrock Rovers at Tallaght Stadium.
However, the Reds go into the game in fine form following an impressive four wins in a row after last Monday’s win over UCD.
“We know we can mix it with the best of them and this run gives us further belief but we won’t be getting carried away. Like always we’ll park it and we move on,” Duff told shelbournefc.ie.
Shelbourne welcomes Brian McManus back to the matchday squad but remain facing numerous injury doubts as in recent weeks after Adam Thomas, Daniel Hawkins and Sean McSweeney missed out last week.
The Shels Head Coach Duff said his side and coaching staff have been enthused greatly by a vociferous and colourful home and away support so far this season.
“We’re building a team where people can relate to. Whether it’s the working man or woman. I guarantee they just will see lads wearing their hearts on the sleeve day in day out where they’ll give their all for the club,” he said.
“It’s been amazing so far,” he added.
Asked whether he was relishing another Dublin Derby, Duff said “It’s just another three points at stake but we expect the players to be flying with energy levels at full tilt before the break.”
Shelbourne have no suspensions in tomorrow’s game.
Extremely limited tickets for the away end at Tallaght Stadium remain here.

Shelbourne boss Damien Duff has called on the travelling Reds fanbase “to be the 12th and 13th man” as his squad faces injury doubts to some players ahead of tomorrow’s Dublin Derby.
Duff says his squad are “down to the bare bones” and will have a number of Academy players on the bench tomorrow.
“We’re not far away from asking some of the Briogaird Dearg to play,” he said.
Despite this, the Shels Manager said his players are “raring to go.”
Shels will monitor a number of injuries in the squad before tomorrow after Brian McManus, Dan Hawkins and Sean McSweeney were among those missing last week.
“We’re probably facing the most amount of injuries we’ve had this year,” Duff told shelbournefc.ie.
“But the lads can’t wait and are obviously in good form with the two wins on the bounce. It’s the first time the club has done that in nine years which is important to make these little markers on the way together,” he added.
“If there’s any time in the season that we need the fans it’s now to pull us through to the summer break,” Duff said.
The Shels boss and Alan Quinn will serve the last of their three match ban tomorrow.

Shelbourne boss Damien Duff says his side “needs to keep building” after last week’s opening home win of the season.
Shelbourne face Drogheda United tomorrow at Tolka Park looking to maintain their form after an impressive 2-1 win over Sligo Rovers last week in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division
“I was over the moon. It’s what the boys deserved after a nervy last few mins and a poor goal from our point of view but we got over the hurdle,” Duff told shelbournefc.ie.
“Now it’s about can we get two on the bounce. No one below us has done that. Positive results on top of eachother can help you climb the table and it goes the other way too,” he added.
“Look it’s against someone close to us in the league so it’s absolutely massive,” Duff said.
Shels will be without Brian McManus and Daniel Hawkins through injury while doubts remain over Adam Thomas and Jordan McEneff who both missed last week.
“It must be said our squad has coped brilliantly throughout the season because we’ve missed bodies during it,” Duff said.
Duff remarked on JJ Lunney’s impressive performance in the Shels midfield last week considering a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
“To play the way he did in his first start since November and a year and a half in the Premier Division was brilliant so we were delighted,” he said.
Duff also said the “eyecatching” Jack Moylan “needs to keep building momentum” working to keep improving.
Limited tickets remain at shelbournefc.ie/tickets-2/ for the Friday night clash live on LOITV with Darren Cleary and Jason McGuinness on commentary.
