Shelbourne manager Ian Morris says it was “disappointing” to have Monday’s clash at Finn Harps called off but will take the positive of a fresh squad going into the first Dublin Derby of the season.

The Reds welcome southside rivals St Patrick’s Athletic to Tolka Park on Friday night with both sides level on three points after one win each in the league thus far.

Morris says he will be hoping for another “massive boost” from the home faithful who he hopes “comes out in their droves once more.”

Shels were edged out by Dundalk in front of a sold out Tolka Park last time out, but despite being “geared up to bounce back” at Harps, the game was called off due to snow.

“When you have a bit of momentum, you want to get going and we had prepared straight into the weekend.

“But with Pat’s on Friday, we’ve got a full week to prepare and the week hasn’t been as disrupted, so we’ll be fresh,” he said.

Morris said St Pat’s manager Stephen O’Donnell has “done a fantastic job” in Inchicore, adding “unknown faces who’ve played at a high level.”

“They’ve added quality, but we’ve got to match their quality and match the determination on Friday night,” he added.

The Shels manager said he “can’t reiterate it enough how important a loud support is” both home and away.

“The fan base propels the players forward and helps them grab the game by the scruff on the neck and try get the three points,” he said.

Shels have no injury concerns or suspensions heading into Friday’s game.

Shels boss Ian Morris says his team will be doing their utmost to “reward the fans” travelling to Ballybofey tomorrow night against Finn Harps.

The Reds face Harps on Monday night after a thrilling game with Dundalk on Friday night in front of a sold out Tolka Park.

Shels lost out 2-1 on this occasion but Morris says there were plenty of positives to take heading into another big week in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division.

“It’s a quick turnaround after Friday so we’ve had to utilise our time as best we can in preparation and recovery.

“Harps are unbeaten so far and Ollie (Horgan) has built a very strong squad and have got the results to show that,” he said.

Shels will be without Daniel Byrne through injury but other than a “couple of niggles” which will be monitored over the next day, Shels have a full squad to choose from.

Morris says the three games in seven days gives an opportunity for some squad use as well as being able to use the different attributes within the squad.

“You’ve got to look at the loads players are accumulating, and there may be some games that are suited to different players with different abilities,” he said.

“It’s fantastic to hear that there are fans and buses coming up on a Monday night. You’ve got people at work and it’s difficult but hopefully we can reward the fans with a result,” he said.

Shels boss Ian Morris says he wants fans to “embrace it, be loud and make Tolka a fortress” as they return to Tolka Park for the first time in the SSE Airtrcity League Premier Division.

The Reds welcome champions Dundalk FC to Tolka Park on Friday night in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division in what’s expected to be a rammed home ground.

Morris says his players have been “flying” in training this week after last week’s opening weekend win 1-0 win in Cork.

“We’ve been straight back down to it and working hard preparing for Dundalk, looking at ways of how we can beat them,” he told shelbournefc.ie.

“It’s obviously a difficult game. They’ve been top of the pile for a number of years but there are ways of picking up results against them.

“We’ll look to nullify their threats and go up to the other end looking to score goals,” he said.

Morris said he “couldn’t fault anyone on Friday” after last week’s late win in Turner’s Cross.

“Even everyone not involved were brilliant, being able to influence the mood, speaking to players.
“The lads know if it’s not their chance this week, it’ll come and they’re there to support their team mates,” he added.

Going into Friday’s game, Morris believes “we have a squad of good players who possess a lot of different attributes.”

“We’ve got three games in seven days and there will be certain games that suit certain players, so everyone is working really hard,” he said.

The Shels players “loved” the atmosphere in Cork on Friday night, Morris said, and he wants every game in Tolka Park this year to “be a sell out.”

Shels have no injury concerns going into Friday’s game and nor is there any suspensions or doubts.

Dear Supporter,

As you know, this Friday marks our return to the Premier Division. With this in mind we would like to remind you of some new operational procedures being put in place going forward for this season.

Future Ticketing are our new ticketing partners and, as I’m sure you’re aware by now, tickets can be purchased online at https://shelbournefc.ie/match-tickets/

  • Home supporters will enter through the Drumcondra end of the stadium via the 3 turnstiles
  • At this moment Season Tickets will have their own dedicated entrance
  • Prior to you entering the turnstile your ticket will be scanned
  • Barcodes are unique and can only be scanned once. Any duplicates will be denied entry.
  • No exceptions
  • Allow time for bag searches
  • Away supporters will enter through the Ballybough turnstiles
  • An Garda Siochana have put the following traffic restrictions in place on match nights going forward:
  1. Richmond Road will be closed off from the Drumcondra side at 6pm until after the game
  2. Traffic will not be permitted through the Richmond Rd/Ballybough junction until after the game
  3. Local vehicles will be permitted access from the Drumcondra side with ID and proof of address
  • We urge you not to use flares or smoke bombs inside the stadium as we are constantly being fined and cannot continue to take these fines on board
  • New CCTV is in place in the stadium and those found to be using flares, smoke bombs, or involving themselves in any sort of anti-social behaviour will be removed and denied access to Tolka Park going forward
  • For health and safety reasons we must insist that there is no standing in the area behind the Away dugout in the vicinity of the bar entrance. This behaviour will be monitored and those in breach will be asked to return to their seats

We really appreciate all your support and hope that you can understand these new measures that we have to put in place and work with us to make Tolka Park a safe and secure venue.

To mark our 2020 FAI Women’s National League squad announcement, we have to teamed up with The Marie Keating Foundation to raise awareness for their #ThinkPink campaign.

The Marie Keating Foundation are asking supporters to #ThinkPink and come together to help support women all over Ireland at every step of their breast cancer journey.

We’re thrilled to announce this year’s squad which features several Republic of Ireland internationals who will look to help the WNT team qualify for their first major international tournament this year.

Even more so, we have retained some sensational young talent including Kate Mooney, Jessica Ziu and Emily Whelan as we look to build on last season’s success.

Kate’s inclusion also highlights the growing relationship with Dublin City University after she scored 26 goals in her last five games for their team showing the success of her scholarship there.

Each year, 3,323 women in Ireland are diagnosed with breast cancer and with your help, the Marie Keating Foundation can continue to provide cancer awareness, prevention and support services, to women and their families across Ireland.

To get involved in the #ThinkPink initiative, all you have to do is pick a day wear pink or organise a pink event and make a donation or fundraiser for the Marie Keating Foundation.

To get involved visit https://www.mariekeating.ie/how-you-can-help-us/fundraise/thinkpink-ie/ or to make a donation to the Foundation, click here.

As part of the partnership, we will be running a number of initiatives throughout the season including a special infographic for Breast Cancer Awareness in this Friday’s match programme for the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division game against Dundalk FC.

Shelbourne FC is delighted to have appointed Lee Daly as Supporter Liaison Officer in our 125th year.

Lee brings a wealth of experience, while being an integral part of The 1895 Trust and will be an excellent point of contact for all fans throughout this season.

This appointment will provide an excellent opportunity for fans to have their voices heard as we continue to grow.

As we have returned to the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division and our FAI WNL team continues to enjoy success it is more important than ever for fans to have their voices heard.

According to UEFA: “a supporter liaison officer is someone who liaises – they are a mediator between the fans and the club, the national association and the league.

The SLO also serves as a link between other parties involved in football, such as the police and stewards.”

Lee can be contacted at slo@shelbournefc.ie  and has some initiatives to announce in due course.
