Paddy Kavanagh’s clearance having gone through, he will play tonight, having left Bohemians and signed for the Real Reds earlier this week.

Paddy started his career at Wayside Celtic, joining UCD from them in July 2006, making ten appearances and scoring four league goals for the ‘Students’ that season.

January 2007 saw him go ‘across the water’ and join Bermingham City on a short-term contract, returning home to join Bray Wanderers, where he made 49 appearances over the next two years.

He joined Shamrock Rovers in July 2009 when Michael O’Neill came calling, where he was in the winning team that won the league title in 2010, having made 22 league appearances. 2011 saw Paddy slip down the pecking order at the Hoops and he made just seven appearances (six from the bench), before the end of another league winning season for the Hoops.

In January 2012, Paddy signed for Alan Mathews and the newly promoted Real Reds at Tolka Park. He made his debut for Shels on the opening night and went on to score six times in 28 league appearances that season.

Paddy’s next stop was at the Brandywell, making sixteen league appearances for the Candystripes as they finished fourth in the 2013 season. His only goal for Derry City was in European competition as his side was defeated 4-2 by Turkish club Trabzonspor.

Returning to Dublin in 2014, Paddy signed for Bohemians (then managed by Owen Heary), where he spent four-and-a-half seasons – stats from those years read – 2014: 29 league appearances, two goals. 2015: 28 league appearances, three goals. 2016: 30 league appearances, one goal. 2017: 28 league appearances, one goal.

During the 2018 season, up to the time he left ‘the Gypsies’, Paddy had made 16 league appearances, scoring once.

Midfielder Karl Moore (ex-Bohemians) has joined Shelbourne..

He had re-joined Bohemians at the start of the season, having left Bray Wanderers. Karl had appeared in 11 league games during this season for the Dalymount club, up to the time he left.

A former St. Kevin’s schoolboy player, Karl signed for UCD in the summer of 2010, returning home after four years at Manchester City. During his time at City, he made six first-team appearances for Millwall while on loan during the 2008/09 season. He made 10 league appearances for the ‘Students’ before leaving them at the end of the season

He moved to Galway ahead of the 2011 season, but left the club in mid-season, having made 20 league appearances – to join up with Shamrock Rovers and Michael O’Neill. Not having had much game-time with the Hoops (just three appearances), he left at the end of the season and joined Bohemians the following February.

He scored twice in 26 league appearances for the Gypsies in the 2012 season. He followed this up by making 29 appearances the following season. The 2014 season saw Karl re-sign for the Phibsborough club, then managed by Owen Heary, making 29 league appearances and scoring twice. In his fourth season with Bohs (2015), Karl made 21 appearances (one goal) as the side finished fifth in the league – just missing out on Europe.

In December 2015, Bray Wanderers announced that the wide-midfielder had signed for them. He went on to start in 31 league games for the ‘Seagulls’ in 2016 and was retained by manager Harry Kenny for 2017, making 25 league appearances during the season.

FINN HARPS 0

SHELBOURNE 0

The top four in the table remains as it was before kick-off as Finn Harps stay in third and Shels in fourth after the sides played out a 0-0 at Finn Park.

Four clean sheets in a row for Harps will be music to their ears as well as the knowledge that they sit six points clear of Longford and Galway, with Shelbourne four points in front of the two sides.

Finn Harps and Shelbourne have now played their three fixtures against each other with all three ending level. The game started in a sluggish manner as neither side could get a rhythm to their play but that changed as both sides were keen to maintain a promotion push.

Shelbourne created the first clear-cut opportunity, Cian Kavanagh curled the ball in from the right side and it was pinpoint for David O’Sullivan in the centre who headed his point-blank effort straight at Ciaran Gallagher.

Finn Harps first concrete effort was just shy of the half-hour mark, after a corner from the left, the ball fell to Jacob Borg on the right-hand side, he worked his way in slightly before an audacious effort which had Dean Delany backtracking to tip over the bar.

The best chance of the was only a few minutes later as Jesse Devers played a long ball over the top for Mikey Place to race onto. Place did just that and after his first touch had a pop at goal, Delaney got a slight touch as the ball looked to be bouncing into the net only for Aidan Collins to make a last-ditch clearance off the line as the game went into the break all-square.

The second half wasn’t one that kept the fans on the edge of their seats as it saw little in the way of goalmouth action. Kavanagh had a close-range shot well blocked by Sam Todd and substitute Gavin Boyne had an effort on the right of the penalty area well saved by Gallagher at the near post.

Shels haven’t won at Finn Park since 2011 and the game fizzled out and kept that statistic intact, although a late cross from Jesse Devers nearly changed that, but it nestled the top of the net rather than the inside.
