With the news of the Johnny McDonnell resignation still in the air, it wasup to Martin Murray 19’s to put a smile back on the club’s face with a fantastic win over title challengers Dundalk in Oriel Park – especially as Dundalk won in reverse fixture in Tolka Park back in September.

From the very off Shels took up the challenge and played on the forward foot, with Aaron Ashe twice and Aaron Robinson testing Sheelkey in the Dundalk goal, but it was Dundalk who took the lead in the 30th minute.A ball was played up to Michael O’Connor and unfortunately Brady misjudged the ball, knocked O’Connor over, the referee pointed to the spot and George Pointin made no mistake.

Shels didn’t let this effect them and only four minutes later equalised. A through ball was played from Brady to Confrey and hechipped Sheelkey from 25 yards.

The game flowed back and forward with neither team able to take advantage. Half-Time 1-1.

Shelbourne came out the second halfwith intent and how they didn’t score in the first five minutes is a mystery, with three great chances from Grimes, Pakenham and Ashe, but eventually made the break through in the 72nd minute. Some great work down the right side from Confrey and Gannonled to Confrey crossing to the back post forGrimes and Obhakhan to fight over who was going to score -Grimes ending up hitting the ball in off Obhakhan.

Dundalk threw everything at Shels to get an equaliser, but Shels prevailed with Keeley, Dempsey, Robinson (Ryan), Gannon and Brady standing stubbornly, to deserving take the three points home.

Not much time to dwell on the victory and this young squad are back in action against St Patrick’s Athletic on Thursday (Dec 4th) in Pearse Park Astro, Crumlin with 8.30pm Ko.

Shelbourne; Jack Brady, Darragh Gannon, Eoghan Dempsey, Conor Keeley, Ryan Robinson, Aaron (Red) Robinson, Dylan Grimes, Aaron (Robbo) Robinson, Aaron Ashe, (Paddy Obijuru 75min), David Pakenham (Ahu Obhakhan 60min), Stephen Confrey.

Martin Murray’s 19’s took three points home from the North West after beating theBit o’Red ( Sligo Rovers ) 3 – 1.

After last week’s fine draw against league leaders Derry, the young Shels started with a spring in their step and Sligo were finding it hard to repel them. They eventually took the lead in the 15th minute from Skipper Aaron Robinson. A throw-in wastaken by Eoghan Dempsey to Ronan O’Flynn who put the skipper in and he made no mistake and put it to the bottom of Chambers net.

At this stage Shels were rampant and should have gone further ahead but for some poor finishing and good goalkeeping by Chambers in the home goal. Theyultimately got caught by the sucker punch on the 37th minute from a Shels corner, when Sligo broke and ball was played to first teamer Gary Armstrong who beat two defenders and finished to the bottom of Brady’s net.

Murray was not a happy man at half time, though it was a half they fully dominated, it was now all square.

In fairness to the young Shels, they regrouped, came out the second half and, although a closer half, they controlled it – and like last week Murray went to his bench with great effect. He introducedObhakhan and Mukete – and it was Mukete who won a corner from which Shelbournesubsequently scored, with Sligo half clearing, Skipper Robinson receives on edge of box, beats one man and drills to the net in the 73 minute.

Then in the 85th minute the win was secured, when a pass back to Chambers was read by Obhakhan, he intercepts and scores to wrap up the three points. This result moves Shels up to second place in the league – with game in hand on Derry.

Shels travel north again next Saturday to play Dundalk in Oriel Park with 2pm kick-off.

In the meantime they have a friendly on Tues 25th against the Schools International team with 7.30pm ko in Parnells Astro in Coolock Village.

Team; Jack Brady, Darragh Gannon, Eoghan Dempsey, Conor Keeley, Ryan Robinson, Aaron Robinson, Ronan O’Flynn ( Aaron Red Robinson 78th min ), Dylan Grimes, Andy Gorman ( Ahu Obhakhan 61st min ),Stephen Confrey ( David Pakenham 83rd min ), Paddy Obijuru ( George Mukete 71st min ).

Subs; Eric Donnelly, Gavin Kearney, Armstrong Bekombo, Andrew Ward.

Will You Be In Tolka Park Next Tuesday Night?

A meeting will take place in the Bar in Tolka Park on Tuesday next (25th) at 7pm to discuss ways of promoting the usage of the Bar, which would increase turnover and maximise the income for the Club.

Anyone who would be prepared to share their previous experience in this type of area – or anyone who feels that they have ideas which may be of assistance – is invited to this meeting.

Following the meeting, it is hoped to form a Bar Committee to, hopefully, progress the ideas which come from the earlier discussions.

We look forward to meeting as many of you as possible – and hearing your ideas – on Tuesday night.

After last week’s 2-2 draw with Derry City, Martin Murray’s 19s head to the North West to play Sligo Rovers in the Showgrounds on Sat at 2pm.

Sligo are on the back of three unbeaten at home.

Martin has mixed fortunes on the injury front, with George Mukete available for selection again, while Andrew Ward back in training but this weekis bit early for him to return to action . Aaron Ashe out injured, after last week’s horrific injury, and Sean McGrane is struggling with knee injury – otherwise he has a fully fit squad.

Martin’s crew also have a friendly against the Schools U18 International squadon Tues 25th Nov in Parnells Astropitch, Coolock village with 7.30pm KO.
