As Shelbourne FC CEO David O’Connor confirms the club has successfully honored it’s contracts with players and staff and will seek to continue to do so in the future, the club is releasing a new media service which will further help the Reds in this new challenging environment.

Launching a new Patreon service for fans where an exclusive podcast, video and archive material will be available, the club is looking to maintain its momentum while also providing supporters a great opportunity to keep engaging with their team throughout turbulent times.

The Covid-19 coronavirus crisis has left the country, along with the rest of the world, facing its biggest challenge in decades, with many of our supporters losing their jobs, and leaving the vulnerable in our society exposed.

While football pales in significance to these matters, it also has a role to play in society and O’Connor says he is “proud” that the club has met its financial obligations to its staff and players in the aftermath of the suspension of the League of Ireland.

Furthermore, with a daily review in place, O’Connor said “our aim and intention is to honour all contracts and staff” whilst ensuring the sustainability of the club going forward.

“We’re still awaiting full confirmation from the government support structures, that hopefully will be available to us to utilise, and until that’s made 100% clear, we’ll just have to treat it on a day-to-day basis,” he added.

Launching the media service, there will be two tiers of membership for fans with consideration given to those out of work while also seeking to provide high-quality value in the service.

The podcast only service will be EUR 5 per month, while a premium service including video, archive material and articles will be EUR 15 per month, the price of a match ticket.

EirSport’s Shane Dawson and broadcaster Darren Cleary are getting behind the microphone for the podcast, where players, staff and club legends will be interviewed weekly.

While the club has not got vast sums of money, we are proud to have such a talented volunteer team who can make such ventures possible.

Reds Creative, the creative output of Shels, features videographers, photographers, broadcasters, journalists and musicians and this group of people are integral to the recent and future growth of the club. This service will further enhance this development.

Episode one of The 1895 features further insight from Dave O’Connor into the clubs operations since the league suspension and an interview with last year’s play-off winner Oscar Brennan.

Further material will be released on the platform after being launched today, and we’re excited to see fans’ interaction with the new service with their involvement becoming more and more crucial every day.

Following last week’s game at Dalymount Park, the continued use of flares at our games has become a major concern, not only from a financial cost point of view, but more importantly, the safety aspect.

From the outset may we make it clear that this in no way is a criticism of the majority of our supporters, who are extremely well behaved at all our games both home and away and who I’m sure are equally concerned.

It pains us to see that a very small minority are not only letting us down and costing us money but are creating a potential disaster waiting to happen.

It is agreed that the atmosphere and the colour created by the flares adds to the occasion but this unfortunately cannot justify the use of them.

This came to a head last Friday when the flares were thrown onto the pitch at Dalymount, narrowly missing both the Bohemian goalkeeper and a child.

This is a disaster waiting to happen, whereby a mis-thrown flare lands in the crowd causing harm and distress to a number of people.

We cannot sit by and let this continue because by doing so we are not adhering to Health & Safety and furthermore the reputation of our Club will be damaged.

At our last home game we ejected 2 people who we found to be lighting flares. This was clearly visible from our new CCTV camera system.

These 2 lads were issued with a “yellow card” but as and from Friday night  this behaviour will not be tolerated.

Those found responsible will be removed from the stadium, banned from Tolka Park and away grounds, reported to the Gardai who will  then instigate proceedings as appropriate.

We hope we will not have to take this action and maybe self-regulation amongst yourselves might be the best course to take, but failing that we have no alternative but to implement the above.

None of us want to take away the Match Day enjoyment, but this is simply too dangerous to overlook and we hope very much that you can support us in this action.

Signed

Shelbourne FC is delighted to announce Permanent TSB as an official partner of our Women’s National League teams for 2020.

We’re thrilled to have the support of such a well-known and respected brand and feel it is a terrific endorsement of the work done by our WNL teams in the last few years.

With Republic of Ireland internationals in the squad and our wish to build on the success of last year’s League Cup win, their support comes as a massive boost in our 125th Year.

The Permanent TSB logo will feature prominently on the jerseys of both of our WNL and our U17 WNL team.

There will also be extensive coverage for our new partners in Tolka Park, in our electronic match day programme and on our social media channels. Permanent TSB also have a branch in Drumcondra near to Tolka Park.

“We are absolutely delighted to announce Permanent TSB have become an Official Partner of our Women’s National League teams for the 2020 season,” Shelbourne FC CEO Dave O’Connor said.

“Our Women’s National League teams have been thriving in recent years and the backing and support from Permanent TSB will provide us with the opportunity to continue to strengthen these teams both on and off the field.

“Having met with Catherine, Eddie and their wider team, it was immediately evident to me that they were incredibly passionate about supporting the continued growth and expansion of women’s football in our club.

“We are very grateful to have them on board and are very much looking forward to working closely with them,” he said.

Speaking about the announcement today, Eddie Kearney, Head of Retail Distribution at Permanent TSB said ‘Women’s football has grown from strength to strength over the last number of years and it is important that it continues to be nurtured and supported at a grass roots level.

“Permanent TSB has a long history of supporting the local community and we are delighted to champion Women’s football by partnering with Shelbourne FC Women’s National League Team for 2020,” he added.

Shels boss Ian Morris says confidence and belief is growing among his squad as Shels prepare for the short journey to Dalymount Park on Friday.

The Reds face Bohemian FC for the first time since surrendering a two-goal lead in the dying stages of last year’s FAI Cup tie.

“I think we took a lot of confidence from the last game (against Bohs) and the red card flipped the game on it’s head but the goals we conceded were just not acceptable.

Morris told shelbournefc.ie that the team have “addressed” that match and will look to “put that into practice tomorrow.”

With a third-sold out game in three weeks to play in, the Shels manager is looking for the Reds faithful to build on that success.

“The noise has been exceptional. Hopefully in Dalyer we can bring the noise and be really intimidating and get behind the lads.

“It’s a massive driving force and hopefully we can do that again on Friday,” he said.

Morris says “training has been fantastic” after winning last week’s Dublin Derby against St Patrick’s Athletic.

“The lads have trained really well with a few bodies back for selection so the mood is really good.

“The form we’ve shown and how solid we’ve been has been really pleasing so hopefully we can take that into tomorrow’s game,” he added.

Morris says results will continue to come if “we keep working as hard as we have and keep producing performances.”

Shels will be without Daniel Byrne and Jaze Kabia is a doubt and will face a late fitness test with no suspensions for the away side.
