Shelbourne boss Damien Duff emphasised his appreciation for “the sacrifices” that Reds supporters continuously make travelling home and away to follow his team weekly ahead of a return to action this week.

The Reds travel to The Showgrounds tomorrow to face Sligo Rovers in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division after the international break.

Tomorrow’s game was moved at late notice from Saturday night to Friday and Duff told shelbournefc.ie that “the fans have been amazing since day one.”

“I’d like to think the fans know how fond I am of them as you see with the jerseys being given away in Dalymount but it’s always so much appreciated whether it be home or way,” he said.

Shels played a friendly game against Dundalk last Friday and Duff said he was pleased to see his team create chances once more as they drew 2-2 with goals from Shane Farrell and Jad Hakiki.

The Shels boss said Hakiki is “believing more and more he belongs at this level” and insisted the young teenager has the talent to forge an impressive career.

After a disappointing night last time out against Finn Harps, Duff said his players were “hurting” and are looking to correct the result tomorrow night.

“It was disappointing as it was not reflective of how we train but I’m sure it was just an outlier and sometimes those results act as a wake up call.

“It was frustrating because before that against Bohs we looked a proper team but hopefully we can get back to that tomorrow,” he added.

“The Harps game has been parked now. We’ve looked at it at length and the lads know they need to show that edge in every single game,” Duff said.

Nursing injuries the last few weeks, Jack Moylan is back running and is thus nearing a return while Adam Thomas misses out due a knock received in training.

Shels will remain without Sean McSweeney, JJ Lunney and Shane Griffin with the latter duo rejoining full training this week nearing a return to the Shels squad.

Shels have no suspensions for this week’s trip to the West.

Shelbourne FC and Innumeris Education partner up to provide academic support for Academy players

Shelbourne FC are proud to announce this partnership with Innumeris Education to offer academic support for our League of Ireland Academy players who are exploring further education opportunities both at home and abroad.

Innumeris is an educational project with the mission of tailoring academic support towards secondary school pupils and student-athletes who would like to attend university after school. They are committed to guiding and inspiring the next generation of students in their pursuit of third-level education. When it comes to supporting student-athletes, we are passionate about proving that strong academic and athletic performance can go hand-in-hand. The Innumeris team includes former student-athletes from top universities such as Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin, Harvard University and Oxford University who have proven that this is possible. The programme patrons and ambassadors are also living proof of this academic and athletic balance.

David O’Connor, CEO, Shelbourne FC said: “This is an incredibly beneficial partnership and programme for our talented male and female Academy players. It is of utmost importance that our players understand the need for dual learning in both academic and athletic performance and this programme will allow them to focus on both. Many opportunities await for these young people and both ourselves and Innumeris Education are excited to help expand their options for their future. I’d like to thank Daniel and his team for their superb work thus far and we’re excited for what the future holds.”

Daniel Olanyi, Founder and Chairperson, Innumeris Education, said: “We are delighted to solidify our partnership with Shelbourne FC by providing academic support and guidance for players who intend on pursuing university opportunities alongside their sporting careers. We look forward to getting the ball rolling and helping them with upcoming exams!”

Shelbourne boss Damien Duff says Shels fans have “given their all and more” so far and it’s time for his players to continue their good form into three points tomorrow at home to Finn Harps.

The Donegal side travel to Tolka Park tomorrow night after Shels drew 1-1 with Dundalk and Bohs in the past week ahead of the international week.

The Shels team received great praise for their jersey gesture to fans at Dalymount on Monday, though Duff said he has left Equipment Manager Johnny Watson in somewhat of a conundrum and a race to get new kit for their upcoming trip Sligo.

“All the fans want to see is us have the heart on the sleeve and the fans have given us their all. It’s up to our boys now to keep going for them,” Duff said.

Duff says tomorrow’s game is “bigger than Bohs last Monday” and said he has has the utmost respect for Ollie Horgan who he says has “done an amazing job the fast few seasons.”

“Ollie is an expert after all these years and the Club is an expert in what it has been doing the past few seasons. You could argue we’re favourites going into the game tomorrow but absolutely not they could very much be,” he added.

Duff said Sean Boyd’s goal at home to Dundalk “was a release” to get our opening home goal of the season and now the team is looking to kick on to get the three points tomorrow.

“We’ve been an awful lot of work on the training ground around set pieces and what Finn Harps will have to offer but we are slowly, game by game, getting better at adding that quality I have been talking about the past couple of weeks,” the Shels boss added.

Mark Coyle is to face a late fitness test as he nears a return from injury while JJ Lunney, Jack Moylan, Shane Griffin continue to miss out.

Shels have no suspension woes ahead of tomorrow’s big game.
