SFC team news | Dundalk v Shelbourne

Shelbourne boss Damien Duff says his side “won’t get carried away with results” after the high of Friday’s win and disappointment of Monday’s loss ahead of another away trip this Friday.

Shels travel to Oriel Park to face Dundalk FC in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division on Friday night following two away wins in a row.

“We have to be realistic to where we are. We’re going to have ups and downs this season – are we going to win every game? Probably not but are we going to try win every game? Absolutely.

Duff told shelbournefc.ie that Dundalk are a team with plenty of quality but his team are looking forward to the game.

“They’ve always had that quality. They’ve got a new team, similar to us, and are rebuilding with some new players.

“We’ve got two tough big away games coming up but we’ve talked about why our away record is so good and we’re looking forward to the game,” he added.

The Reds Head Coach believes the reasoning for his side’s home and away record is “nothing tactical or technical but probably something emotional” but says the group is continuing to work as he realises if the home form improves, Shels will be in a “fantastic position.”

Duff believes the Shels fans after two sold-out home games have been “brilliant” and emphasised that “it’s so important that not just the players and staff but the fans too keep very close knit and together.”

“If we do that we’ll get to where we want to go faster,” he added.

Brian McManus’ injury is described as short-term in an injury boost for the Reds who will also be without Sean McSweeney, Daniel Hawkins and David Toure through injury.
