Manager Kevin Doherty’s latest signing for2015 is Gareth Coughlan.

Gareth Coughlan signed for Bray Wanderers in 2008, having joined the ‘Seasiders’ from Lourdes Celtic. During his two seasons with Bray, he played in 26 league games.

Prior to the start of the 2010 season, he signed for St. Patrick’s Athletic. In May of that year, in a game against Bohemians, he suffered a double fracture to his right leg. After a long lay-off, Gareth returned to the Inchicore club for the 2011 season

Gareth was named on the bench when Dundalk visited the Inchicore venue in July, but his appearances for the Saints were few and he left Pat’s at the end of the 2011 season

Coughlan signed for Scared Heart in the Leinster Senior League in September 2011, but returned to the League of Ireland, signing for Dundalk ahead of the 2012 season.

Having made just five appearances with Dundalk, he returned to the LSL and Sacred Heart FC in June 2012. Heplayed with SHFC until his transfer to Shelbourne in January 2014.

During the 2014 season, Gareth played in 21 League games (scoring 7 times), 3 FAI Cup games, and one each in the League Cup and the Leinster Senior Cup.

Gareth is Doherty’s seventh signing for the coming season, joining Greg Murray, Adam O’Connor, Ryan Robinson, Mark Sanford, Philly Hughes and Alan O’Sullivan.

News ofmore signings will be posted as they happen.

Philly Hughes is the lastest signing announced for the 2015 season.

Philly previously played for the Real Reds – playing in 83 League games, 14 FAI Cup games, 6 League Cup and 8 Leinster Senior Cup games, between 2008 and 2013. He scored 31 goals in the League, 9 in the FAI, 2 in the League Cup and 4 in the LSC.

Having signed for Shels in 2008, it didn’t work out for him and he returnedto Kildare County in the summer transfer window. tTe following year he moved to Leinster Senior League club Phoenix FC but in June of that year he returned, once again, to Kildare County. The ‘Thoroughbreds’folded on the final day of that season and Philly found himself on the move again.

He spent 2010 at Monaghan United, scoring an impressive 22 league and Cup goals. In January 2011 he returned to Shelbourne, this time signing for Alan Mathews, and his 20 league goals, in 30 appearances, helped the Reds to promotion from the First Division. Philly also scored in the FAI Cup final as Shels drew 1-1 with Sligo Rovers before losing in a penalty shootout.

On Shels’ return to the Premier Division Philly scored eleven times in 28 league appearances but in 2013, without having scored in 17 league outings, he signed a loan deal at St Patrick’s Athletic on 1 July. He made his Pats debut on 4 July as a late sub against Zalgiris Vilnius of Lithuania in the Europa League but that was to be his only appearance for the club.

On 4 December 2013 Philly signed for Drogheda United. He had a dramatic introduction to life at United Park getting sent off from the bench in the season opener against Dundalk. He made his debut for the Drogs against Bray Wanderers on 11 April and made 8 league appearances, scoring once, before moving to Bray Wanderers on 18 July 2014 where he made a further 10 league appearances (eight as substitute) over the latter half of 2014.

The Shelbourne FC 19’s are back on the road again this weekend with Martin Murray’screw heading to Cork to play City in the second round of the Enda McGill Cup in Bishopstown on Sunday.

After the disappointing way the Cup ended last season, Martin is eager to put another Cup run together and no harder way to start than our old friends but as the old saying goes “To win the cup you have got tobeat the big teams” – and the second round is as goodas any.

Shels gointo the gameon the back of a exhilarating performance last Saturday with a 4 – 1 win over Longford Town, while Cork suffered a 2-0 defeat to Rovers last Sunday in Bishopstown.

Martin has almost a full squad to pick from with Eoghan Dempsey, Stephen Confrey and David Pakenham returning from injury and with Luke Doylerecovering from illness, this leaves Andrew Ward out through foot injury.

This is the last game before the Christmas break and this young squad have kept up the high standards once again and are sitting nicely in fourth place in the Northern Divisiona point behind Bohs, two behind St Pats and four behind leaders Derry – but having to play all three in the New Year. Cork sit second in the Southern Division five points behind Waterford United.

This season the top four from each division go into a Champions league format at the end of their campaigns.

So here’s to a Happy Christmas and a successful ’15 from all.

Shelbourne FC are delighted to announce the appointment of

Kevin Doherty as 1st Team Manager with immediate effect.

Kevin first signed for Shelbourne in July 2001 from Liverpool where he spent 4 seasons impressing both Steve Heighway and Gerard Houllier until a broken leg halted his progress.

The 6’ 4″ defender spent 4 years at Tolka Park before going on a season long loan to Waterford United. Kevin spent the 2006 and 2007 seasons at Longford Town and at the start of the 2008 season he linked up with Bray Wanderers.

The ” Doc” came home to Shelbourne at the start of the 2009 season but was very unlucky with injuries and only made 16 league appearances for the season.

Having hung up his boots Kevin put his mind to coaching and immediately took up that role with Home Farm in the DDSL. Having been successful there Kevin moved on to be the first Manager of the Shelbourne under 19 Elite Team in its inaugural season.

During this time Kevin continued with his coaching studies and gained his UEFABBadge and was recruited into Alan Matthew’s first team staff as a coach.

When Alan left and John Mc Donnell took over Kevin was recruited into a position of Assistant Manager and during this time completed his UEFAABadge.

Kevin’s next step will be to attain his UEFA Pro Licence.

We are delighted to now have Kevin on board as 1st team Manager and to put his skills to the test in the difficult surroundings of the 1st division.

Kevin’s enthusiasm and love for Shelbourne Football Club shines through like a beacon and is infectious at all levels of the Club.

We hope that everybody will wish him well and give him every support in the coming months.

Kevin will now set about putting together his back room team and squad for the 2015 season and further information on this will be posted as soon as possible.
