Mark played underage football with Lourdes Celtic and Crumlin United before signing with Shamrock Rovers U19s in 2012/13.
For the senior team, he was an unused substitute in the Hoops Leinster Senior Cup final win over St Pats CY on 3 September 2012 and he played in the summer friendly against Aston Villa in August 2013. He re-signed for the club’s U19 squad for the 2013/14 season.
In February 2014 Mark was included in the Hoops’ reserve side that competed in the 2014 First Division. He made 19 league appearances for Colin Hawkins team – seven starts and twelve as substitute.
He will be remembered by Shelbourne supporters as the player who grabbed two late goals against the Reds at Tolka in September. Shels had been leading 3-0, but Sanford brace made for a very anxious last few minutes for the home Management, Players and Supporters.
Mark was a team-mate, at Rovers,of Stephen Confrey, who joined Martin Murray’s Under 19s in August.

SHELBOURNE 2 (Ashe, Gorman)
DERRY CITY 2 (Curtis, Kelly)
What a game we got today!
It was a pleasure to see these two young teams go toe to toe with each other a titanic battle and a draw was a deserving result as neither team decided to lose this or to win it.
On the evidence of the talent of view, both teams can look forward to some promising young lads coming into the senior teams in the next year or two, with Curtis, Kelly, McFadden and Doherty for Derry City and with both Aaron & Ryan Robinsontogether withAshe and Grimes for Shelbourne.
From the very off Derry tried to set the tempo and early on dominated without troubling Brady in the Shels net until 20th minute, with shot from Kelly from edge of box, but it was Shels who took the lead on the 38th minute from a very good move on the right hand side and excellent ball played into Ashe’s feet and he turned and shot to the back of the net. But the old adage, that you are at your mostvulnerable when you have just scored, was evident immediately when Shels defence turned off and allowed McIntyre get down the flank and cross for Curtis to score in the 41st minute and this is how the first half finished – one each.
Derry started stronger the second half and were dominant in midfield and got there reward in the 53 mins from a move down there left side and a cross from Flanagan, Kelly powered to the back of the net to take the lead. Murray immediately responded by making a double substitution with O’Flynn and Obhakhan coming on for Pakenham and McGrane, In the 65 minute Gorman replaced Ashe who had been knocked unconcious by a terrible tackle by a Derry defender who unbelievably only got a Yellow card, This change worked out as Gorman got on the end of a great move on the left side in the 76 minutes. Full back Dempsey put in a great cross to the back post and Gorman came in to finish to the net and at this stage it was nothing more than Shelbourne deserved.
For the next 24 minutes Shelbourne charged forward for a winner, with both Aaron Robinson and Dylan Grimes coming close – Robinson denied by a brilliant save from Lynch and Grimes taken the paint of the post.
John Quigg manager of Derry was in the end happy to take a point back to Brandywell, and on the evidence of today’s game, these two teams will be challenging for the title come the end of the season.
