Sean Heaney and Manuel Rodríguez join up with Shelbourne First Team
Sean Heaney today joined Shelbourne on lean from Shamrock Rovers, while Manuel Rodríguez signs after training with the first team.
Sean Heaney:
Sean proved to be a towering effective presence in the centre of defence, while playing for ‘the Hoops’ First Division team in season 2014.
Having signed from St. Kevin’s in the summer of 2013 for Rovers Under 19 team, Sean made his first team debut against Dundalk in the Leinster Senior Cup Final. He also represented the FAI Emerging Talent U18s against Ipswich Town FC. He has represented the Republic of Ireland at Under 18 and Under 19 level.
During the 2014 Season, Sean was primarily a member of Rovers’ First Division team (playing in 16 games) where he proved to be a very effective presence in the centre of defence, but healso found time to show his effectiveness with the Premier Div team, playing in 4 Premier Division games and one each in the Setanta Cup, The Leinster Senior Cup and the EA Cup.
Manuel Rodríguez
Manu played in the first two pre-season games against Sligo Rovers and Longford Town, coming on during the second half in each. His play, in the latter of the two games especially, showed that he could be of great assistance to the Reds in the season just about to start.
Manu, an attacking midfielder, winger, striker comes from Rute in the province of Córdoba in Spain.
He played his underage football with Lucena CF and Cordoba CF, graduating to Malaga CF (U21) and Alameda CD and Huetor Vega CD

Shelbourne’s U19s are back in action on Tuesday evening 17th Febagainst Drogheda United in United Park with 7.45pm Ko.
They will be looking to address the 2-1 defeat they suffered to Drogheda in Tolka Park back in October. Both sides were on the wrong end of scorelines in their last fixtures, with the Young Reds losing disappointingly 2-0 to Letterkenny Rovers and Drogheda losing 3-0 to the league leaders Derry City.
Manager Martin Murray’s squad has dramatically changed since last October withFIVE new signings over the last month. The only absentees for Tuesday gameare long term injury Eoghan Dempsey and suspended Luke Doyle – otherwise full squad to select from.
Going into the final straight of the league campaign, the table makes interesting reading with FIVE games to go. Derry City leading with 32 points from 13 games played, St Pat’s and Bohs on 26 points from 12 games – and having to play each other in a ‘back game’ – and then Shelbourne sitting fourth on 25 points from 13 games, but lurking in the background is Dundalk on 24 points from 13 games (who had a very good win against Pat’s last weekend). The big game of this weekend is St Pat’s playing Derry City in Crumlin on Valentine’s night. With all the top teams all having to play each other, the whole table could change very quickly.
Shelbourne’s last five game’s are:
Tues 17th Feb – Away vs Drogheda United (United Park) Sun,
22nd Feb – Home vs St Patrick’s (AUL 2pm)
Sat, 28th – Feb Away vs Derry City (Brandywell 2pm)
Sat14th March – Away vs Bohemians (Dalymount Noon TBC)
and to finish the regular season
Sat, 21st March – Home to Sligo Rovers (Venue & KO TBC )
So still all to play for!
