After their first league game of the season defeat to Dundalk, Martin Murray’s team got a great win away to Longford Town last Sunday, despite being down a number of their more experienced players.
They will be hoping to continue their winning form when they take on Finn Harps at Tolka on Saturday next.
Harps have not made a good start to their season, going down 4-0 toPats at Richmond Park and 2-0 at home to Derry City.
There is an open invitation to come along and support the players of the future – you’d be most welcome.
Remember – this is where the likes of Lee Desmond, Adam O’Connor, Dylan Connollyand Ryan Robinson, who are now starring with the first team, came from – and 11 of the 18 who represented the club in Longford last Sunday, came through our underage system.

As of this week, the management of the bar in Tolka Park has been taken back under the wing of the club and will be run by a group of volunteers, from within the club.
The bar will be open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday and also on all match nights and for all Pool Team matches.
All the profits from the bar will, from now on, go directly to the club and, with this in mind, we are asking all Shels supporters and friends to support the bar on match nights and weekends in order to help the club make a success of this venture.
During the changeover period we expect there to be some teething problems and we ask our customers to be patient with us during this time.
Should you wish to book the bar for a private function we would be delighted to accommodate you and you can contact Niall Fitzmaurice on 087 6379121 to make your booking.
We are also looking for volunteers, who may be interested in helping out in the bar, to contact on the above number. Any help at all will be very gratefully accepted.
Thanks for your continued support.

Longford Town 0 – 1 Shelbourne (Ahu Obhakhan 29mins)
After the disappointment of losing there opening game, Martin Murray and the 19s travelled to the City Calling Stadium to play Longford Town.
Unfortunately, Aaron Asheand Darragh Gannon weren’tavailable for the game and then losing midfield maestro Sean McGrane on the morning of the game, Martin had to field a very young side – with six U18s and one U17, George Mukete, and with three of the players making their debuts – their backs were to the wall.
To the credit of this young Shels side they came away with a deserving 1-0 win against a very powerful Longford side, with the only goalof the game scored by one of thedebutants – Ahu Obhakhan – who has come through the Young Reds ranks. What a goal it was – with wing wizardory by Andy Gorman to cross for Ahuto finish.
If things hadn’t been bad enough before kick-off, Shels lost Ronan O’Flynn before half time to a nasty ankle injury and then Andrew Ward, butthey dug inand were very unlucky not to score another goal or two from some exciting built up play. At the end of the match, there was relief all round tohavetaken the three points home and a good learning curve for some of thesepromising young lads, of which EIGHT of the thirteen used ( 11 of the 18 ) came through the Young Reds academy ranks.
Next upwe playFinn Harps at Tolka Park next Sat (20th Sept) with 2pm kick-off. Please come allow and give them your support.

The presentation of a cheque for €5,000 was made to the parents of young Cian Byrne at Shelbourne’s last home game (against Longford Town). This represented theproceeds of the Charity Game between the Shelbourne Euro Squad of 2004 and the PFAI Masters side, which took place at Tolka Park on August 13th, together with what was raised by the raffle, the auction and the sale of the match programme on the night.
Pictured from left to right are Joe Casey (Chairman Shelbourne FC), Cian’s Mam Joanne, the man Cian himself and Dad Andy (thanks to Maurice Frazer for the pic).
If you missed the night and would like to make a donation to the fund, this can be done through the ‘Care for Cian’ facebook page.
