Coughlan hat-trick seals Shels win

A hat-trick from Gareth Coughlan earned Shelbourne a fourth straight league win as fellow promotion-hopefuls Wexford Youths suffered a second successive league defeat.

Shels are now just a point behind third placed Wexford in the table, though Youths have a game in hand.

Midfielder Coughlan tapped home the opening goal at Ferrycarrig Park after 12 minutes before adding a second with a well struck 20th minute drive from distance.

Andy Mulligan got a goal back for Youths five minutes before half-time, racing onto Danny Furlong’s fine through ball to score.

Winger Mulligan then tied the game two minutes into the second when finishing from a Craig McCabe long throw.

Youths had defedner Gary Delaney sent off for a foul on Philly Hughes, his second yellow card, on 69 minutes.

Shels then got their winner on 79 minutes with an absolutely stunning strike from Coughlan to complete his hat-trick.
