Under 19s Player of the Year – Lee Desmond

Posted on

Lee Desmond was presented with the Under 19s Player of the Year trophy for the 2013/14 season at their End of Season get together at the Tolka Bar, following the 2-0 Shelbourne win over Finn Harps on Friday night.

Lee had, just earlier, played a big part in that win over Harps, in just his third game in the senior league, having already played in the EA Sports Cup and Leinster Senior Cup earlier in the season.

In the 2013/14 season, he played his normal calm sound defending game in 20 of the 22 Under 19 Elite Division league games and in the three Cup Games – while also popping up with three league goals and one in the cup.

Lee is definitely ‘One to Watch’

Lee’s Details

Lee Desmond (dob:22 Jan 1995), whois a pacey left back, joined Martin Murray’s U19 squad in July 2013, having returned home from a two year stint with Newcastle United.

Lee joined Newcastle from Cherry Orchard in August 2011, when he was 16. He spent his two seasons playing for both the U18 and U21 sides.

While his first year on Tyneside was interrupted by injury, he overcame that is his second season to establish himself in the youth set-up, making 20 appearances for the U18s and a further five for the U21s.

Lee is a great reader of the game and is not afraid to venture forward, when the occasion presents itself.
