St. Patrick’s Athletic 3

Shelbourne 1 (Gannon)

UnfortunatelyShelbourne’s Under 19ssuffered their first defeat in six games last night against local rivals St Pats Athletic in Pearse Park’s Astro in front of a large crowd.

There wasn’t a lot between the two teams and ultimately the game was decided on two mistakes by Shels.

Shels started well and were unlucky not to take the lead with Aaron Ashe and Darragh Gannon hitting the post. Pats took the lead through an interchanging move, finished to the net by Markey. Shels responded quickly and equalised through defender Darragh Gannonafter good combination play and that is how the first half finished.

Unfortunately Manager Martin Murray had to make two substitutions at half time, Shels losing both Dempsey and Pakenham to injury, but they started the 2nd half well and should have taken the lead through Ashe or Grimes but then, firstly dur to anerror by Ryan Robinson losing the ball and in trying to rectify his error, hefouled the striker to concede a penalty which Pats skipper scored for his seventh goal of the season.

Shels tried hard to get the equaliser, but Pats were keeping it tight and counter attacking and from a long ball out of defencce by Rooney, unfortunately Brady made the error of coming out to clear and collided with defender, who had situation in hand, and Bell had the easiest of tasks of scoring into an empty net and confirm the win.
