After last week’s win in Longford, the 19s were back on home soil hoping to follow up with another winagainst Finn Harps and Martin made six changes with three players (Eric Donnelly, Aaron Red Robinson and Eoghan Dempsey) making their debuts and again Martin gave youth the opportunity with only four U19’s, -fielding five U18s and two U17s.
Shels started well, creating early chances and unfortunately in the 12min Sean McGraine got himself Red carded for retaliating in a tackle, but instead of been a set back, Shels stayed positive and Martin carried on playing a 4 – 3 – 2 and in the 34 min from a roving attack down the right side the ball was played to Captain Aaron ( Robbo ) Robinson and from 25 yard he found the net with a thunder of a shot, and this is how the first half finished.
What a second half exhibition of football by this Shels we were shown. In the 58th minute, from a corner half cleared by Harps, left full Luke Doyle retrieved the ball and crossed with his right foot to the back post were Darragh Gannon out jumped the Harps defense to power a header to the net. We only had to wait another nine minutes for some excellent team play finished to the net by sub Aaron Ashe.
In the 75 minute Eoghen Dempsey won the back in his own back line and went up the line past two defenders and set up Aaron Ashe who had his shot saved by the keeper only for young Dempsey to carry on his run and finish to the net and give Shels a 4-0 lead. But Shels weren’t finished there and a back pass to the Harps keeper, was read by Ashe and he won the tackle with the keeper to walk the ball into the net on the 87 minute to round off a superb second half performance that we had to count the numbers – as Shels looked like the had the extra player.
Next up for this young Shels side is a trip to play Letterkenny next Sunday 28th September.
