Shelbourne sign defender Aidan Collins

Shelbourne have, today, secured the signature of defender Aidan Collins, who joins the club for the second time, having played with the Reds in 2007.

Collins has a huge amount of experience in the league of Ireland, having first played with Bohemians for two seasons before joining Shelbourne.

Since playing with Sporting Fingal in the 2008 season, he has played with Monaghan United under Mick Cooke and Roddy Collins. He signed for Longford Town following the Mons club’s exit from senior football in 2012.

He joined Athlone Town under his old manager Roddy Collins in 2013 and captained the side to promotion to the Premier Division and was nominated for the PFAI ‘Player of the Year’ for that season. During the following two season at the midlands club, he served under managers Mick Cooke, Keith Long, Eddie Wallace and Alan Matthews.

Shelbourne manager Kevin Doherty is delighted to have signed Collins ahead of a number of other clubs, saying that “he adds much needed experience to the side for the coming season”
