Shelbourne travel to the South-East on Friday, to play Wexford Youths in the First Division of the Airtricity League. Kick-off at Ferrycarrig Park is at 8.00pm.
Shels followed up their huge 1-0 win away to Galway FC, with a good 2-0 win over Cobh Ramblers last Friday evening. Two goals scored in the first 16 minutes – the first by newcomer Sean Russell after less than a minute, the second on 16mins by Conor Murphy – Shelbourne seemed to have thrown away their shooting boots from then on, as, despite having the majority of the possession and scoring opportunities, the score was to remain at just two.
Wexford Youths had a great 2-1 win at home to Galway FC last Friday, a win that enabled them to leap-frog the Westerners into third place in the league. This followed on from a good 2-2 draw away to Finn Harps and a 2-0 win over Shamrock Rovers in Wexford.
With both sides on form, the game has all the signs of a good even game, where goals could be at a premium.
This is the first game of the final quarter of the league competition, Shelbourne having suffered just one loss in the last series of seven, away to leaders Longford Town, and one draw, at home to Finn Harps, scoring 12 and conceding 5.
For Friday’s game, Shelbourne have Gareth Coughlan suspended, having accumulated four red cards.
Darren Tinnelly once again misses out through injury, with Lee Murtagh, Jordan Keegan and Dylan Connolly listed as doubtful.
