Presentation made to the family of the late Johnny Murray

A presentation was made by the club, at half-time during the game with Finn Harps, to the family of the late Johnny Murray.

Johnny, as many of the older supporters here will know, played with the club from the 1966/67 season until the end of the 72/73 season. For most of that time, Johnny was club captain.

Midfielder Johnny played in a total of 126 league games, scoring 13 times; 11 FAI Cup games scoring once and in two European games, home and away to Vasas of Budapest in the UEFA Cup. Shelbourne lost the away game by the only goal, scored very late in the game and drew 1-1 with the Hungarian side in Dalymount Park, the equalising goal scored by – you’ve guessed it – Johnny Murray.

The presentation was made, on behalf of the club, by Frank Young (left) and Eamonn White (right) to Johnny’s wife Theresa (beside Eamonn) and his daughters Tracy and Audrey, with Tracy’s husband Conor and Johnny’s grandchildren Robert, Katie and Tara.
