The towering Dutchman rejoins Shelbourne on loan from Major League Soccer franchise Minnesota Utd for the 2026 season.

The 6ft 6” (1.98m) Wessel arrived at Tolka Park in the summer of 2025 and very quickly ingratiated himself with the Shelbourne fans as he delivered a string of immense performances. Big Wes notably saved penalties against Quarabag and Linfield as well as providing stellar performances in the league campaign, which helped the club qualify for Europe once again.

Hailing from the small Dutch town of Gouda, renowned for its eponymous cheese, Wessel began his career at Jong Utrecht before moving to the United States in 2022. He now considers Tolka his home from home and everyone at Shelbourne is excited to have his services for the full 2026 season.
