The 27-year-old striker arrived at Tolka Park from Dundalk prior to the 2024 season. The Kilkenny-born player amassed 4 goals and 4 assists on the way to lifting the Premier Division title that season.

John brings an enormous amount of physicality to the front line and never gives defenders a moment’s rest. As adept in the air as he is with the ball at his feet, he is an all-round handful of a striker.

His game continued to grow during the 2025 season with the Reds as he increased his goal tally to 7 in the league. But perhaps John’s most memorable moment in a Shelbourne jersey to date came in Croatia in the Europa League. Away to the league and cup champions of Croatia; Martin rose majestically in the penalty area against Rijeka to plume the net with a header of stunning quality. That goal saw Shels win 2-1 on the night and record one of the best away results of any League of Ireland side on the continent.

John will undoubtedly be aiming to deliver more highlights and give the fans further memories as he embarks on his third season with the club.
