Ali’s career began at Dundee United’s academy, where he signed his first professional contract in June 2014. He made his senior debut for Dundee United the following year against Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership. From Scotland, Coote joined Waterford FC then moving to Dalymount where he spent three seasons before signing for the Reds.

Since coming to Tolka Park in June of 2024, Ali has lit up countless games with his trickery, ingenuity and never-say-die attitude. He was a huge part of the league winning squad of 2024 and he excelled during the European campaign of 2025 whilst also chipping in with five important league goals.

Internationally, Coote has represented Scotland at the U15, U16, and U17 levels, winning 18 caps between 2012 and 2015. In a red shirt he has operated in both wide and more central areas where his technical acumen has really come to the fore. Ali will be aiming to continue his stellar stint at Shels in 2026.
