Finn Harps v Shelbourne

SSE Airtricity League – First Division

Finn Park – Fri, May 23rd – KO 8.00pm

Shelbourne travel to Ballybofey for the first time since July 2011, to play Finn Harps in the Series 12 game of the SSE Airtricity League, Division One game. Kick-off at Finn Park is scheduled for 8.00pm.

Shelbourne played Colin Hawkins’ Shamrock Rovers ‘B’ side last Friday in Tolka Park, with the sides coming away with a point a piece after a 0-0 draw. Shels didn’t get going at all in the opening half, having the majority of possession but unable to break through the well set up Rovers’ defence. A brighter Shelbourne side started the second half and firstly Lee Murtagh and then Willo McDonagh could have put Shels in front. The game then settled back to the first half pattern until Shelbourne upped the pressure in the last 20 minutes and were, maybe, unlucky not to score from a number of shots on target, principally from Gareth Coughlan and skipper Brian Gannon, who skied his shot when unopposed on the six yard line.

Finn Harps, at the same time, earning themselves a great draw ay Eamonn Deacy Park against Galway, the home side grabbing a goal in the 90th minute, after Harps had hels on to a 1-0 lead from the 56th minute, even though they were playing with ten men – Caoimhin Bonner having seen red on the half-hour.

Earlier in the season, Shelbourne defeated Finn Harps 2-0, with goals from Gareth Coughlan and Keith Quinn (pen).

After the game with Rovers, Shelbourne Manager Johnny McDonnell said he was “disappointed that we didn’t grind out a one nil win. Just a few things didn’t work for us tonight. The boys are all disappointed up there. They expect and the want – that’s the standard we ask of them, to win every match, they gave everything that they could give.”

On the return of Jordan Keegan, McDonnell again “It was good to get Jordan on. He definitely makes the difference for us, the way we want to play”

On the injury front, it seems that Friday’s game just comes too early for John Sullivan and he will continue to get treatment from the physio team. Jordan Keegan was back in action for the final fifteen minutes of the game with Rovers and should, once again, be in action in Donegal.

Absent on International duty will be Dylan Connolly and Ryan Robinson.
