Shamrock Rovers ‘B’ v Shelbourne

SSE Airtricity League – First Division

Tallaght Stadium – Mar 30th – KO 3.00pm

Shelbourne will travel to Tallaght Stadium on Sunday, for their first game against Shamrock Rovers ‘B’ in Division One of the SSE Airtricity League. Kick-off at Tallaght is 3.00pm.

Shelbourne go into Sunday’s game on 7 points from three games, having had two wins (Wexford Youths 2-0; Longford Town 0-1) and a draw (Waterford United 3-3), while Shamrock Rovers ‘B’ have 2 points with two draws (Cobh Ramblers 1-1; Galway FC 0-0) and a loss (Finn Harps 0-3).

Shelbourne’s last game was against Waterford United on Friday last, when they led 2-0 at half-time, only to be pulled back to level terms on 69 minutes. A late goal from Stephen McDonnell on 86 minutes seemed to have the three points tied up for the Reds, only for an unfortunate own goal from Lee Murtagh on 93 minutes allowing the visitors to travel home with their third draw from three games.

After the Waterford game, Shelbourne Assistant Manager, Mick Byrne gave his thoughts “I thought we were cruising in the first half. Second half, we sat a little bit deep and Waterford came and gave it a go, but I thought we were strong enough to go and win the game, but we were unfortunate with the last minute own goal. Otherwise we would have had nine points from three games.”

On Sunday’s game against Rovers, Byrne said “Its early days in the league and most teams won’t know some of the players in the opposition teams. On Sunday, even though we have watched the Rovers side we will not know, until we see the team sheet, whether they will have some players from their first team. We can only worry about ourselves and we’ve been doing quite well, in games and in training, and we’ll have sorted a few issues from the last game during the week in training.”

Shelbourne have no suspensions for the game and all players have a clean bill of health, which gives manager Johnny McDonnell a full squad to select from.
