Shelbourne v Longford Town

SSE Airtricity League – First Division

Tolka Park – Fri, May 2nd – KO 8.00pm

Shelbourne welcome Longford Town to Tolka Park on Friday night for their game in the SSE Airtricity League, Division One. Kick-Off at the Drumcondra venue is 8.00pm

Shelbourne lost their first league game of the season at Ferrycarrig Park on Friday night last, losing by the only goal of the game, scored by Eric Molloy in the 93rd minute.

Longford Town, in joint second place in the league going into last week’s series of games, failed to take full advantage of this slip-up, however, drawing their home game with Galway FC 2-2.

And so we go into Friday’s game, with Shelbourne on top of the table on 17 points and with Longford on 11 (but with a game in hand against Cobh Ramblers). In between these two we have Wexford Youths on 13 points and Waterford United on equal points with Longford, but with one goal advantage in the ‘goal difference’ column.

In, the first round of games in this season’s campaign, Shelbourne took full points away from City Calling Stadium, with just one goal scored – by Jordan Keegan in the 11th minute.

Of the last nine games between the sides, six have been decided by just a goal, one has been drawn and there has been a two goal dirrerence in the remaining two. Friday’s game will likely be another tight one.

Speaking ahead of the Longford game, Shelbourne manager Johnny McDonnell wasn’t giving much away, saying “Longford are favourites for promotion this season and no different to the away fixture, Friday will be a close and tight game. We will keep playing our passing game, as if we have ball we can control the game.

Shelbourne go into Friday’s game with no suspensions.

John Sullivan, Jordan Keegan, Willo McDonagh and Conor Murphy continue to get treatment for injuries and can only be counted as doubtful for Friday’s game.
