Galway FC v Shelbourne

SSE Airtricity League – Division One Play-Off

Eamonn Deacy Park – Friday, October 17th – KO 7.45pm

In Friday’s first game of the Division One Play-Off, Third plays Second when Shelbourne travel west to play Galway FC at Eamonn DeacyPark. Kick-Off is scheduled for 7.45pm.

On the weekend just gone, Shelbourne travelled to St. Colman’s Park needing at least a draw to confirm their second position in the league, the result of which would be a home fixture for the second of the play-off games. Having been down 2-0 at half-time, it looked as if that might not be the outcome of the final series of games – however, two goals soon after the break brought them back into the game and the final score 3-3 confirmed their runner-up position.

At the Galway FC v Wexford Youths game, played at the same time, the win that would have been necessary for the home team to leapfrog Shelbourne into second place (had the Dublin team faltered), was a step too-far, as that game also ended in a draw 2-2.

Just two weeks ago, Shelbourne and Galway FC played out a 1-1 draw at Tolka Park – the other three games played between them this season ended in a 1-0 win for Shelbourne in each of their visits to the Galway venue, while the Westerners took all three points from their first visit to Tolka Park in August, courtesy of a 2-4 win.

The second game in the First Div Play-offs will take place in Tolka Park the following Friday (24th), with the aggregate score deciding which of the two goes forward to play the 11th team from the Premier Division for a place in the higher tier for the 2015 season.

Shelbourne have two players suspended for this week’s game – Brian Gannon for accumulating four yellow cards and John Sullivan serving an additional game’s suspension having been red-carded in the last game against Galway FC.

Missing through injury will be Darren Tinnelly and Gregg Murray, though back in training following a knee injury received against Shamrock Rovers. Willo McDonagh is rated doubtful.

Suspended: Brian Gannon, John Sullivan

Injured: Gregg Murray, Darren Tinnelly

Doubtful: Willo McDonagh
