Martin’s U19’s came away with a credible draw against our friends Greystones AFC (Leinster Senior League / Senior Division) in Archfield, Greystones tonight.
A very competitive game with no quarter givenand no quarter asked, very high tempo game with excellent football from both teams, with chances created at both ends it was Young Shelbourne who took the lead in the 23rd minute from a well worked corner from Aaron Robinson to be finished with a header from Paddy Obijuru.
Even though both teams created more chances we arrived at half time with Shels still leading 1-0.
The 2nd half was only 10 minutes old when Greystones scored from a debatable penalty (put away by former Shels favourite, Darren Forsyth) and, unfortunately, two minutes later Shels conceded another with Greystones breaking the offside trap. Things went from bad to worse when three minutes later the Reds conceded number three and things weren’t looking very good, but after a couple of changes, in the 68th minute Conor Keeley rose above all to score from a bullet header following another corner.
At this stage Shels were excelling and seven minutes later skipper Aaron Robinson unleashed an unstoppable screamer from 25 yard to the back of the net.
Both teams went all out to get a winner to no avail, and in the overall of the game a draw was a fair result.
Next up for this young group in Saturday 16th in the Carlisle Grounds vs Bray Wanderers U19’s with a 11.30am KO.
