February 14, 2024: Shelbourne FC are delighted to announce that Gavin Molloy has signed a new contract extension.

The renewed terms will see the 22-year-old defender remain at Tolka Park until the end of the 2025 season.

Molloy has become a key player for the Reds since making his first team breakthrough under Damien Duff in 2022.

The Dubliner has gone on to make 57 appearances for Shels, scoring 4 goals. He was named 1895 Young Player of the Year in 2023, an award voted by his fellow teammates, while also being nominated for the award the season before and being a consistent feature in the League of Ireland’s Team of the Week.

His winner in the FAI Cup semi-final against Waterford in 2022 will be fondly remembered by Reds fans, Molloy has also scored in the League of Ireland Premier Division in games against Shamrock Rovers and Finn Harps.

Showing experience beyond his years Molloy has emerged as a leader on and off the pitch, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, the late great Theo Dunne, who led the Reds as captain in the 60s.

Molloy has also worn the armband like his grandfather, and captained the Reds on a number of occasions.

Damien Duff, Shelbourne FC Head Coach said: “Gavin is an elite player, a dream to work with and as long as he is in Ireland, he has to play with his grandfather Theo’s club. He grows week in week out before our eyes and has quickly become one of the top players in the country. Simply, he is a class act on and off the pitch.”

Gavin Molloy said: “I’m honoured and very grateful to be extending my deal with the club. Shelbourne FC is only going in one direction, and I want to play a massive part in that. I felt like last season was a great season for me personally and for the club and I just want to push on even further. Having European football back in Tolka means everything and I can’t wait to put that red jersey back on.”
