Finn Sherlock joins TSG 1899 Hoffenheim

Shelbourne FC have today announced that Finn Sherlock will leave the club to join TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in Germany on July 1st, 2024.

Finn joined Shelbourne FC in January 2022 from Cootehill Harps. He was capped at International level at U15 with the Republic of Ireland by Jason Donoghue. Once he broke into the squad, he became an ever-present, featuring consistently in Paul Osam’s starting eleven that won the Victory Shield in 2023 for Ireland, which put the young player on the radar of numerous European clubs.

In 2023, Finn made several appearances for our U17 National League team at Shelbourne FC as an under-15 player. In 2024, he featured in several of Damien Duff’s first team squads and scored in pre-season for the first team against Bray at the age of 15, one of the youngest to hit the net for a senior Reds side. Currently, Finn is the U17 National League team captain.

The club recognises the positive contribution Finn has made since joining Shelbourne FC, and we were eager for Finn to continue his journey with us. However, he has made the decision to advance his career with Hoffenheim, competing in the A-Junioren Bundesliga next season.

We fully respect Finn’s decision and extend our heartfelt gratitude for his dedication during his time at Shelbourne FC. We wish him every success in his new adventure with Hoffenheim.

Colm Barron, Shelbourne FC Academy Director said: “When Finn joined the club in January 2022 he was a player who showed some obvious qualities. He had a lovely left foot, was athletic and extremely fit. From working closely with him it quickly became apparent that he showed an exceptional hunger to improve. It is rare that you find a player that can retain and implement information so quickly from a coaching perspective, which is why he has consistently improved over a two year period. He has grown to become an exciting attacking left back, who never shies away from his defensive work.”

Luke Byrne, Shelbourne FC Technical Director said: “Everybody at Shelbourne FC is so proud of Finn. He has been top class in everything he has done since joining us in 2022. His attitude, application and determination mark him out as a special young player. He embarks on the next stage of his career with our full support and we will watch his career closely with great pride. It is yet another example of the education and pathway we aspire to provide for the young players in our academy. Finn and his family are always welcome at Tolka Park.”

Finn Sherlock said: “I want to thank Colm, my coaches, and teammates and everyone at Shelbourne FC for everything they have done for me. The support and development I’ve received here have been incredible, and I’ve learned so much about the game. The club has given me a fantastic football education, and I am deeply grateful for all the opportunities and experiences. I’ll always appreciate my time here and look forward to carrying these lessons with me to Germany.
