ATHLONE TOWN 2 (Cian O’Sullivan 34′, Daniel Purdy 59′)

SHELBOURNE 1 (Dylan McGlade 50′)

Report from sseairtricityleague.ie

Daniel Purdy hit a cracking winner to give Athlone Town victory for the first time in seven league games as Shelbourne blew a chance to get right back into play-off contention at Lissywollen.

Midfielder Cian O’Sullivan put Town ahead on 34 minutes when he volleyed to the net from just inside the area. Purdy then hit post with a shot from long range just before half-time.

Shels levelled six minutes into the second half. Town keeper Paddy Dunican and defender Stephen Dunne got their wires crossed to allow winger Dylan McGlade in to poke hope from close range.

But Purdy won it with the goal of the game on the hour mark when turning neatly on the edge of the area to curl a shot to the top corner of Greg Murray’s net.
