He was transferred from the Inchicore club to Dundalk in July 2007, but had only a short spell with the border side before being snapped up by Waterford United manager Gareth Cronin in early December 2007.
‘Quigs’ joined Shelbourne in early February 2009 and made his debut at home to Wexford Youths in the first game of the season, at home to Wexford Youths.
David McGill’s first club in the League of Ireland was Dublin City, who he joined after having had a spells playing college football in the US and with Tolka Rovers.
He joined Dublin City at the start of the 2005 season and played with them until they went out of business in July 2006. He then played for Shamrock Rovers before joining Shelbourne at the start of the 2008 season and has been a regular first choice for the past two seasons.
McGill plays in midfield, either in the centre or on the right. During the 2009 season he also made some appearance in the right back position.
Paul Shiels (born: 19 April 1980) is an experienced central midfielder who has won promotion with three different clubs - Monaghan United, Dublin City and Shamrock Rovers. After twelve years with his hometown club, Monaghan - where he won promotion in 2001 - Shiels moved to Dermot Keely’s Dublin City in 2005, and won promotion with the club at the first time of asking as the Vikings finished second in the league before defeating Shamrock Rovers in the playoff.
However, following City’s death in July 2006, Shiels moved to Rovers and helped the Hoops to win the First Division crown just four months later. He remained with Pat Scully at Tolka Park for the following season, however, he didn’t make his first appearance of the campaign until August. He made ten league outings between then and the end of the season, however, just days after the final league game against Waterford United, Shiels was released by the club. He soon found his way to Dundalk, however, as he was signed by John Gill in December 2007, and he made his competitive debut for the club away to Shelbourne on 7 March 2008.
Following John Gill’s departure from Dundalk at the end of the 2008 season, Paul Shiels was released and was signed by near neighbours, Drogheda. He played in 29 of league games for Drogheda in the 2009 season, scoring twice.
